I woke up to 30 missed calls from my mom.  The shocking part?  There were 10 missed video calls and three voice notes, each lasting a solid five minutes.  "This woman should just enter the studio and start singing," I muttered, rubbing my eyes.  I was about to listen to her messages when another call came in.  "Good morning, Mommy."  "How are you doing?"  "There is nothing good about this morning!" she yelled.

I woke up this morning and it didn’t feel like Eid. Not because I forgot… but because nothing around me remembered. For three years, Eid has happened without me being there. Today makes it four. No early morning noise. No familiar faces. No rush for Eid prayers
