@jesslynnrose I just add un/semi sweetened baking chocolate to a pot of boiling water, then sweeten with equal parts honey and maple syrup and add a bit of milk.

Me and Danger are leaving NYC. We're moving to Dublin. No long essay on how NYC is dead (it isn't) but a mix of COVID 2nd wave and family stuff makes it worth the hassle. I'd expect my annual write-up to be very delayed.

@jesslynnrose “Don’t lift heavy things, you’ll injure your uterus!” - my mom “Don’t negotiate” - also my mom. “You should have a baby, get a mortgage, get married, find a job” to which I replied “in that order?” - that one was my dad.

Good morning Twitter, please tell me about the worst advice you've ever been given? RT for more small horrors to distract ourselves from larger ones?

@bakfietsdc You can use clothing tags from shirts, pillowcases, mattresses, etc. they’re made of tyvek - perfect for a tire boot.

#biked I’m pretty sure this is the second flat I’ve gotten from this gash in the side of my tire. You can see a tiny bit of the new tube underneath. There is no embedded debris. Do I need a new tire?

@zachklein Laccaria stems break like chalk. Not fibrous. Use iNaturalist- it’s the best app for this kind of thing IMHO

@Pflax1 Kruis simply means cross. Many brands of kruisframes exist- locomotief, azor, simplex, VanMoof, workcycles, juncker, gazelle, olympiade, to name a few.

@Pflax1 I live in Ams and am a bike obsessed volunteer mechanic at a high end shop. I hate the gendered titles for frames, but even the Dutch manufacturers we order from name their models by gender. 🙄Consider roetz, veloretti, or my fave- vintage “kruis” frames. google.com/search?q=kruis…

OK, I'm going to tweet about step-though bikes. As I said last night, I'm kind of lusting for one. So I spent some time perusing bikes and I'm prepared to share highlights. Let's do this.

@StasKlymenko How and when to ask a good question. Show the person/team/forum you’re asking that you respect their time by trying to find the answer on your own first. Take note of what you did, develop a methodology, and ask for specific help.

@jesslynnrose It depends on your budget, terrain preference, and a little bit on your physical proportions. I suggest get a starter bike that’s not too fancy and tweak it over time rather than invest too much only to discover you have a different riding style.

@jesslynnrose Yes! I’m crazy for bikes, specifically touring ones. There are affordable ways to get started and set yourself up for success. A great way to start is to do a few “S24O’s” (single 24-hour overnighters). Happy to answer q’s and help you get set up!

Are any of y'all into bike touring? I'm spending a lot of time on a stationary bike and thinking I might want to get into bikes + long stretches outdoors whenever this becomes possible.

@Panopticrat Awesome! Seek + iNat are game-changing tech tools for me. Recently, we went on a mushroom hunt based solely on nearby sightings on the map. Snap a pic, wait a bit, get a research-grade ID. Seek can sometimes auto-ID from your camera in real-time too.

@Panopticrat @philsturgeon I had the same issue although my beams were massive. (4x8, 4x10, and 4x12). I ended up adding more footings later on. More bracing, strapping, and footings. I wish I did that from the start. A master carpenter friend advised me to add braces that were notched into the beams.

@ArlanWasHere I built a farmer’s market food delivery app at a hackathon in 2015. Farmer’s at a market would receive texts about purchases up to 24 hours before the market, and someone would pick up all the inventory at the market, sort, and deliver.

Is there an innovative solution you’ve seen for a farmer’s market moved online that then delivers safely? I’m thinking a hub where we are able to pay for fresh food and goods (helps merchants) that then gets delivered to the elderly, disabled, and others on our behalf.
