I will also say that higher ed institutions on the east coast miss out on a lot of younger talent because they are obsessed with age. Job postings on the east coast be like “7-10 years experience, terminal degree” California “3 years experience, masters degree”

Working in higher ed doesn’t afford you the ease of saying “oh I want to move to xyz”. Honestly we have to go where the jobs are. Sometimes we move to less than desirable places for pay or advancement.
