"The du‘ā of Istikhārah is usually made after prayer. The Prophet (S A W) taught that if someone wants to seek Allah’s guidance, they should pray two rak‘ahs and then make the du‘ā.
If someone says the Istikhārah du‘ā before the salām in their prayer, that’s also fine.
Even if they say the du‘ā without praying first, there’s no issue.
But the best way is still to pray two rak‘ahs and then make the du‘ā, just as the Prophet (S A W) taught."
-Fatāwā Nūr ‘alā ad-Darb (11/72).

I know this is probably just engagement farming, but if anyone uses this as an opportunity to spread lies about or insult a companion of the Prophet (S A W), -may Allah be pleased with them all-, you’ll share in the sin.
These are questions that not knowing the answer to will not harm your salah, fasting, or any of your deeds.
The salaf warned strongly about opening this door.
When Umar ibn ‘Abd al-‘Aziz was asked about the conflicts between the companions (radhiyaLlahu anhum), he said:
“These are blood that Allah kept our hands pure from, so we will not stain our tongues with them.”
And Imam Ahmad said regarding what occurred between Ali and Mu‘awiyah (radhiyaLlahu anhuma):
“We remain silent about what happened between the companions of the Messenger of Allah.”
These two great figures of Islam feared for their iman and avoided speaking about this matter, knowing that their 'verdict' on it would bring them no benefit.
Yet today, someone over a thousand years later feels compelled to give their 'verdict' on it.
They were closer to the time, greater in knowledge, and purer in heart, yet chose silence.
The companions are the best of this ummah. Our duty is to love them, speak well of them, and keep our tongues clean from the issues that arose between them.

As a Muslim who studied history, what is your verdict on Mu’awiyah and Ali ibn Abi Talib?
