I saw a TikTok from a young woman about how she paid $1000 to go to a yacht event in Monaco and people invited her to parties on some yachts "because I was dressed to impress...you can dress to show you bring value to the yacht." And I don't know if anyone will tell her that cute dresses are not why young women are invited to yacht parties.

@ScMesab @hannahcrileyy This is a 9 hour drive. So someone has to have a reliable car, have access to gas, and have access to clear roadways not packed with other evacuees or debris. Stuff like this is a nice gesture, but in reality many people can't even get out of the state.

just watched an NBC meteorologist cry on air talking about how terrifying Hurricane Milton is & then the next thing I saw was a woman in the evacuation zone saying she has literally nowhere to go — all the hotels are booked & she doesn’t have a lot of money & has 4 dogs/6 kids.

@pulpy_fiction Agree with this even though it's not likely to be a popular take (& def not universal). The pay is low, but not when taken hourly cause there's no world in which I was hitting 40hrs/wk during my PhD. I always thought of it as a low-stakes 5 yr. contract job.
