Arsenal set-piece coach Nicolas Jover’s contract with the club contains a bonus clause for goals from dead-ball situations.
When Mikel Arteta signed his last contract with Arsenal in September 2024, the club then had to embark on independent contract negotiations with his coaching staff including Jover, assistant Albert Stuivenberg and goalkeeper coach Inaki Cana.
The deals were ratified in 2025, and match Arteta’s in running until 2027 with the process led by then managing director, Richard Garlick and interim sporting director Jason Ayto.
Jover — whose expertise at set-pieces has attracted interest from elsewhere — held a strong hand in negotiations. Ultimately the agreement reached ensured the 44-year-old would be rewarded for goals Arsenal scored from set-piece situations.

Expert CCTV work helps convict dangerous rapist in Essex
A dangerous, violent offender who raped and stabbed a woman he had never met in Benfleet, Essex, has been handed a 19 year extended sentence following a fast moving and meticulous police investigation.
Kyle Pauley, aged 24, was sentenced at Basildon Crown Court on Thursday 8 January, where Judge Samantha Cohen said the evidence gathered against him was utterly overwhelming.
Officers were called at around 11pm on Monday 22 September last year after reports that a woman had been approached by a man near Villa Road Recreation Ground. The victim told police she had been followed, threatened with a knife and ordered to do as she was told.
She was taken to a nearby field where she was raped. After this horrific ordeal, the victim attempted to push Pauley away and was stabbed once in the stomach.
Pauley fled the scene and the victim managed to make it home, where the first call to the ambulance service and police was made.
Officers immediately launched an intensive search of the area and acted on the description provided by the victim. Pauley was arrested within an hour of the call. Although he had discarded the knife, it was later recovered by crime scene investigators. The victim’s glasses, knocked off during the attack, were also found nearby.
Investigators established that Pauley had recently been released from prison after serving a sentence for drug dealing. He was wearing a GPS monitoring tag as part of his licence conditions, which helped place him at the scene at the time of the assault.
Careful analysis of CCTV footage showed Pauley following the victim before the attack, while DNA evidence further tied him to the offences.
Pauley, of Brook Road, Benfleet, was charged with two counts of rape, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of a knife in a public place. He pleaded guilty to all charges when he appeared at Basildon Crown Court on Friday 24 October and was sentenced at the same court on Thursday 8 January 2026.
In a powerful victim impact statement, the woman described how the attack had left her anxious, unable to concentrate at work and struggling at home. She said she no longer felt normal and would always be scared of her attacker.
Her father told the court the attack had been horrific and heartbreaking and said the emotional toll on his daughter and family had been devastating. He said: “To the person sitting in the dock, I am thankful that you have spared my daughter the mental torture of a trial and I hope that whatever sentence is passed today, you think about your actions.
“I hope that you use this time to make amends with your future actions and come out of this a better human being than the one you are currently.”
Pauley was deemed to be a dangerous offender and given an extended sentence comprising 12 years in prison and a further seven years on licence on release.
Judge Cohen praised the highly expert and thorough CCTV analysis carried out by the policing team, which helped secure the conviction.
