This shows the progress.
One minute travel time shaved off in 173 years.
Hooray.
Mumbai Heritage@mumbaiheritage
Did you know? On 16 April 1853, India’s first train left Bori Bunder (Mumbai) at 3:35 pm for Tannah (Thane), completing the journey in about 57 minutes. Over 170 years later, a suburban train still departs around the same time, 3:28 pm (T75), and reaches Thane in 56 minutes, quietly echoing that historic journey. Same city. Same route. Same time. Just a very different Mumbai. #mumbailocal #IndianRailways

In the olden days, when ships used to dock in Mumbai, they used to tie their boats to the door at the harbour.
The Sanskrit word for tie is Bandh and for a door, is Dwar. So the place they tied a boat was called BandhDwar.
The word then travelled to Persia and became Bandar or Bunder. Which meant port or harbour
So any place in Mumbai which has the word Bunder in it, was a place where once upon a time boats used to dock.
So the place where boats used to dock and had a lot of sacks in it, became BoriBunder
The port where Palla or Hilsa fish was available became Palla Bunder, which then transformed to Apollo Bunder
The port where the Portuguese traded Horses with the Arabs, became Ghodbunder
And a port which had no particular significance was called Bunder. In Marathi, this became Vandre. Which over a period of time became what we
know today as Bandra
The word Bunder in Mumbai is not just a pointless word.
It actually represents Mumbai's maritime heritage and importance

Batukeshwar Dutta was the one who had planned and exploded two smoke bombs, along with Bhagat Singh in the Central Legislative Assembly in New Delhi on 8 April 1929.
While Bhagat Singh was sentenced in Saunder's case, Batukeshwar Dutt was sent to Cellular Jail in 1931. He was made to extract 18 KG oil like a bull, everyday. He worked 16 hours everyday for the next 5 years. In 1936 he was released as he fell extremely ill. Upon his release he contracted Tuberculosis and continued his Freedom Movement. He was arrested again in 1942 and was imprisoned.
Following India's independence in 1947, Batukeshwar Dutt faced severe financial hardship and neglect. He struggled to find suitable employment despite his significant contributions to the struggle against British rule. Reports indicate that he sought government assistance for employment but was not provided with a job. No one responded to his letters in which he sought a Group D clerk job. He was left to die in poverty while the PM wore expensive jackets.
On 20th July 1965, at the age of 54 and body weight just 27, Batukeshwar Dutta died at AIIMS New Delhi. He was cremated in Hussainiwala near Ferozepur in Punjab where the bodies of his friends Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar were also cremated. THAT WAS HIS LAST WISH.
In the image, Batukeshwar Dutta on his deathbed with Bhagat Singh’s mother Vidyawati comforting him.
Yes!! That's how we treated our freedom fighter
