Photographer's Share from the MAC Event： Shooting KAI in 6 Minutes At the end of last month’s MAC event, we needed to take a few studio-style white-background shots of the artist holding the product before the event kicked off. The schedule that day was extremely tight, leaving KAI with very little time for the shoot. I pre-set all the lighting, and once KAI arrived, we quickly discussed the shot concepts and references. From the first frame to the last, the entire session took just over 5 minutes. KAI really knows how to nail every shot. Shooting high-profile artists on such a tight timeline demands exceptional control from the photographer. There is no room to take a shot, check it, adjust, and re-shoot. You have to spot and fix issues instantly. For example, on the first shot, the product logo was underexposed from that angle. I noticed it the moment I pressed the shutter and immediately had my assistant bring in a reflector to bounce light onto it. The top priority for lighting here is stability. Consistent, flicker-free output is non-negotiable. I shot with a medium format camera, loving the detail from its 100MP sensor and 16-bit color depth, and did not even need to use burst mode. After wrapping the white-background shots, I rushed to the event venue. Between the two live broadcast cameras, I shot wide-angle stage photos. During the group photo segment, a crowd of cameras moved to the front, and I quickly turned off my flash. Instead, I framed those cameras as silhouettes in the shot, which added great depth to the frame. For the last four photos of him dancing, I shot right as the front stage lights cut out.
