One of the interesting clarifications that came out of the Estate’s responses to Kane is that Christopher’s “History of the Silmarillion,” said to run more than 2,600 pages, is a separate document from HoMe, and remains largely unpublished.

For those interested in a summary of how Christopher (in his own words) "constructed" The Silmarillion, Kane's book "Arda Reconstructed," is the place to start. IMO, Kane is too critical of CJRT and lacks CJRT's knowledge of what remains unpublished, but still a useful resource.
