Marketplaces are at the core of lots of disruptions caused by Technology And my friend @AmarBatra is one of the best persons to explain nuances of building & investing in marketplaces. He has a deep experience building products/launching new markets at eBay, OLX and Spotify. Here are a few highlights from his Masterclass at GSF SuperAngels Academy yesterday: 1. Lookout for and Focus on category creating businesses. 2. Go narrow and focused vis-a-vis wide-ranged categories; crack traction in one category before expanding the marketplace. 3. Network effects is a key driver for marketplaces. A few are organic ; a few need to be built 4. Build and expand the Supplier side ; Buyers will follow 5. Focus on unit economics from the beginning, look for companies that are being built frugally. 6. Focus on building traction/profits in one geography before rushing out to other cities or countries. 7. Understand the Difference between Scale and Scalability when investing in marketplaces. 8. Liquidity in a marketplace is extremely critical (Liquidity = transactions filled / potential transactions)

@rajeshsawhney The largest impact is required at the bottom of the pyramid and only Government can solve this problem. Some not-for-profits are also playing a good role here. Not sure if many Startups are targeting this space.
