Ralph Mupita is an engineer, and Strive Masiyiwa is also an engineer. If Zimbabwe were to move away from the dominance of Chartered Accountants and lawyers in executive management and boardrooms, we might see less ongoing capital being channelled into low-risk property development. With more engineers and other technically oriented professionals in leadership, there could be a stronger appetite for productive risk-taking, innovation, and enterprise. Such a shift in leadership culture could encourage corporate entrepreneurship and help redirect investment toward industrial development, potentially supporting Zimbabwe’s path back to re-industrialisation. Leadership is much more about scanning the environment, sense-making, and taking that daring risk for a sweet ripe fruit on a hanging tree branch. CAs and lawyers are picking up fruits on the ground that have already fallen from a tree. Industry and Commerce Ministry is a huge late down to this country.

@matinyarare @KMutisi Where do the taxes come from, isn't it from from a functional economy with industries and well paid workers, exports, etc. We used to be the biggest beef exporter to EU, zvakendepi? Byo was our industrial hub. Anyway, thanks. We all know our problem but you can't say & it's okay

The original problem is Zimbabweans don’t pay enough tax to pay for better services and if you want better services you must emulate the most developed countries that pay higher tax to GDP than poor countries. Simple. You don’t get or deserve services you can’t pay for. So, this is not a diversion but the smart man’s realization that services don’t grow on tree, they are invested in by taxes.

So what you wrote there is YOUR critical thinking? Heavily taxed you say, that may be a fact. BUT 40% of $100 is just $40% whereas 10% of $1000 is $100. The govt is collecting taxes FROM little earnings, that’s why it feels painful. If the govt taxes 10% of the $100, it will just earn $10, making it VERY DIFFICULT to pay civil servants or fund public services. The REALITY is that the tax REVENUE is small. U don’t have to dig deep, how many companies in Zim have $1 billion REVENUE (not profit)??? That alone tells you how SMALL the economy is. U can’t expect to get the same salary as someone in South Africa where the $6 billion national budget of Zimbabwe is equivalent to the budget of a city like Joburg. That’s how SMALL Zimbabwe is. The discourse should be on: HOW TO GROW THE CAKE. Demanding big salaries & expecting “world class” public service is just a pipe dream. Key Questions for debate: 1. Who is responsible for low production? 2. Who must produce? 3. How to increase production. The lame propaganda of: IT’S CORRUPTION doesn’t cut it. Even if NOTHING is stolen from Zim public funds, the money remains pathetically small.

@KMutisi Zimbabweans pay 7.2% of GDP in tax, we are some of the lowest taxpayers in the world. And remember that GDP is a measure of consumption, private investment, exports and govenment spending on the people. It’s a lie to say Zimbabweans are highly taxed.

ZIMBABWEANS want BIG SALARIES, wide roads, “FREE EDUCATION”, Free healthcare etc… BUT, how much tax are you contributing? Last year ZIMRA collected a paltry $6 billion, is that enough to provide all these things? Should govt introduce more taxes? The problem is: LOW PRODUCTION. Zimbabwe needs more mining (but the whining Zimbos call those mining looters), more agricultural production, more tourists (but the loudest whiners also like scaring tourists). There is need for rewiring the heads of folks in Zimbabwe. There is no free lunch, u work for your comfort. You don’t get to a company, lazy around all day, but expect a big salary, FROM WHERE?????

@daddyhope You seem so sure about your unprovable assumption/hallucination. Chamisa worked his way competing with those who were in MDC-T. It's only that you don't want to credit Chamisa. Where & how did he receive the goodwill. Stop all this nonsense. Your favored ones had their chance too

I never said I wanted Nelson Chamisa to endorse Dr Nkosana Moyo, who is now in retirement after an illustrious career in banking and finance. Anyone who says so is being ridiculous and dishonest. I said that as long as Nelson Chamisa, who received Morgan Tsvangirai’s goodwill, remains in politics but doing nothing, it is difficult for anyone to rise! We should stick to the facts and what was actually said, not create false interpretations. I understand when an opposition figure whose political survival depends on Nelson Chamisa becomes dishonest to please him, but ordinary citizens should not do the same. We should respond to the issues raised and have a civil discussion!

Protests worked in Mozambique. Anyone who says they did not work does not understand what is happening there. Without those protests, President Filipe Nyusi would not have agreed to sit down with Venâncio Mondlane. Politicians who are pursuing the national interest understand the importance of not conflating their personal interests or presidential ambitions with it. Demonstrations and public pressure play a significant role in influencing political decisions and promoting change. That is why the protests in Mozambique served as a catalyst for dialogue between President Nyusi and Venâncio Mondlane, which will potentially lead to positive outcomes for that country. Leaders who prioritise the well being of their country and its citizens are more likely to engage in constructive dialogue and make decisions that benefit the greater good. So, protests when well organised can be a powerful tool for promoting change and reminding politicians of their responsibilities to the people they serve, that is why ZANUPF and Mnangagwa are terrified of protests and public pressure. So my faith in Venâncio Mondlane was not misplaced!

Zimbabweans do not have opposition leaders. Before you argue that you didn’t speak up on corruption because the messenger is from zanu pf ask yourselves why people felt drawn to him. Why did you leave a vacuum for an 80 year old ZANU vet to be the face against corruption?
