I am still seeking a post-doc with background in x-ray physics and passion for synchrotron research. Project is on resonant tender x-ray scattering of organic semiconductors. If interested, please email me a copy of your CV. #postdoc #synchrotron pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.102…

@k_Alfred3 I simply mean that if I read a paper, I know what the problem is, what the approach was to solve it, and what each individual person did.

When I started my first postdoc, my advisor would ask me questions like 'What's the key question in the field? What is the limiting factor here?'. He directed me to have papers where my contribution was clear, and guided me away from trying to 'get' papers for citations. (1/5)

@AlexandruBG Sure you are right!!!!! But what do you mean by clear contribution??? Most papers you may deemed no clear contribution at present may have contributions at later time. Some published paper in top journals also have the name issue of what you call no clear contributions..

@k_Alfred3 I think generally program managers understand these issues, and prefer quality papers in respected journals, in terms of administering funding, over many papers with no clear contribution, while graduate student stipends are (usually?) the same regardless of how much you publish.

PSA to universities: When your PhD students can’t afford rent, groceries, healthcare, childcare and other essentials, something is very wrong. We can’t expect students to succeed when they are struggling to cover basic living costs. Provide more $ support and raise stipends now. @OpenAcademics @ThePhDPlace @PhDVoice #AcademicTwitter #AcademicChatter
