@kagamidefence @TheFreakofIriam Yes but also no. They were created because shaft couldn't finish bake on time so they straight up replaced some scenes with the monocromatich frames. They became iconic and were later properly adopted into the style of the series

@TheFreakofIriam also, you are definitely missing out, Kizumonogatari is very different from the rest of series. You should at least check out bakemonogatari, there are so many amazing ops, animated scenes, voiced banter between the characters etc.

@TheFreakofIriam they have multiple use cases. The ones with a lot of text is usually text from the light novel, which is detailed description of the scene, inner monologue etc. Some indicate the narrator blinking, chapter change. I'm open to experts on this explaining this fully though
