@saikenMD i dont regret working as a nurse before med school, cos it rly did help me grow & made me feel more grounded (as what u've mentioned) plus, i get to laugh a little every time my younger batchmates panic over things ive been doing for years pfft (only cons is they call me AUNT 💀)
English

@saikenMD agree that taking extra time helps. prior work experience is helpful bcos the skills u do & acquire in hospital get applied in med school. most of my batchmates are younger but age wont matter if ur committed to the path. it hella takes lots of investment (time & financially)

I don't exactly regret going into medicine straight out of university, but I think it was very humbling coming in to med school as a 22 y/o when most of my friends were 25-26. Like they'd taken gap years to travel, done research, career-changed, etc. and by residency, it became EXTREMELY OBVIOUS which doctors actually had a real working job before and which ones were on their first job right out of school. I just always had a chip on my shoulder for being one of the younger ones: they had more time to be an adult after college, grow into themselves, hold responsibilities, some of them were even married and had kids too.
It got magnified in residency when I was actually doing patient care, once patients would start asking how old I was, or if I was qualified to be treating them. I look young for my age too, which I guess just breeds distrust in a profession where you can only be old and crusty if you want to be taken seriously (unlucky asian genes, inability to grow facial hair). I distinctly remember my attending once pointing out that it was "cute" or that I "should be flattered," but once we had seen our 8th patient that day that said the same exact thing, even she admitted that it was exasperating. I started wearing my hair up instead of down in bangs for that reason!!
anyway idk why i'm talking about that, but in general if I had to recommend if someone go into medicine right after university or after a gap year or two, I would say take the extra time. If you can financially afford it, or even work during that time, I think the people who come out of it are just more grounded overall. Also you won't end up like me and that's probably a good thing.

I have started a Vtuber Community Fundraiser for the Children’s Miracle Network. All funds will be processed by the Charity. If you are a Vtuber that wishes to help Please share the Link below. If you cannot Donate Please reshare this post every bit of visibility helps.
childrensmiraclenetworkhospitals.org/fundraiser/411…
Vtubers live in an online magical space for art, games, stories, and wonder. We entertain and bring smiles to many around the world. We want children in need of care to get help to heal to grow and enjoy all of the good our amazing world has to offer. A chance to learn about art, play games, hear and make their own stories. We can use our Pixels not just to entertain but for good as well, to help get supplies and treatments for the beautiful innocent children in need.
Children’s Miracle Network help 170 hospitals and Millions of children each year. Even a small donation can be something to save a life, allow someone to grow, and have more people make the world more beautiful. Who knows, a child we help save may just become one of the next great Vtubers we add to our ranks. While Halloween is coming fast and costumes and candy will be spread around, lets also give the gift of life in addition to sweet treats and spooky stories.
My Goal though ambitious for my size Is to partner with other Vtubers and their communities to raise $10,000 for the children by Halloween. I myself am disabled and live on oxygen I only have a small taste of what these poor children have been through in their medical struggles, I wouldn’t wish it on anyone especially a Child. If you want to do something to actually help children in need, so they can heal grow and thrive please donate.
Thank you,
Starcat Tailchaser
