idk personally i think it's absolutely fair that toby wants to be able to personally be involved in the translation, which he cant do for languages he doesn't know. like idk im pakistani but i dont think he's racist for not making an urdu translation??

@lysukoo it is his work, and thus he has final say. he doesn’t feel that he can guarantee the quality of any translation that he isn’t fluent in, which is his right. you do not have the right to interact with art in your native language if the artist doesn’t want to translate it

Ok actually i have something to add If most authors had Toby Fox logic we would never get any translation of anything 😭 it’s rare authors actually translate their work themselves, most of the time they just explain the meaning to the person doing the translation

@ThrustTheSky @prototypell Recent examples: the Silksong chinese translation is crazy bad, and is still being fixed. Basically all of Kingdom Hearts 3’s translation is completely inaccurate. Yakuza games are notorious for bad translations.

@pvicvg Mother 3, the game Undertale pulls a tremendous amount of inspiration from, is only in Japanese, and Toby played it using a fan translation (later learning japanese)

This Toby Fox localization situation to me just comes to show how there are certain issues in this industry which will never be understood by those who don't go through it (1/?)

@Fanboy93038882 @snickerolli the work needed to translate undertale into japanese literally takes up a book. accurate translation that keeps the same tone is extremely hard, and takes a lot of time and effort. this is the only type of translation that toby wants, which is his right as an artist
