KECOSCE recorded 19 early warning reports this week, reflecting a moderate-to-high threat environment across Kenya's coastal region. The data highlights a convergence of risks, including crime and violent incidents, climate-induced and resource-based conflicts affecting over 2,000 families, and rising identity-based political tensions linked to shifting alliances and grassroots mobilization. Additional alerts on radicalization risks, particularly in the context of alleged excessive use of force, point to growing concerns around governance gaps and community–state relations. @theGCERF @tendasasa @IPOA_KE @NSCpeace @NPSOfficial_KE To learn more, see the report here. kecosce.org/weekly-conflic… #EWER

Advancing Religious Freedom Through TOFORB Project in Tana River County Kenya Community Support Centre (KECOSCE), in partnership with Search for Common Ground and a wider consortium of civil society actors, is implementing the Together for Religious Freedoms (TOFORB) project in Tana River County. This initiative contributes to regional efforts across the Coast and Northern Kenya to advance Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB). The project is designed to deliver sustainable impact by: Empowering diverse stakeholders—including women and youth leaders, community elders, religious leaders, and justice and security actors—to champion FoRB in their communities. Strengthening trust and collaboration across faiths and generations, reducing vulnerabilities to human rights abuses based on religion or belief. Building resilient coalitions that can sustain advocacy, dialogue, and joint action beyond the life of the project. Today, KECOSCE is convening a training workshop in Tana Delta subcounty bringing together members of the county multi-faith and cross-generational coalitions to jointly identify human rights challenges, set priorities, and develop actionable strategies for collaborative advocacy. By investing in inclusive coalitions and equipping them with tools for joint advocacy, the TOFORB project is laying the foundation for long-term resilience, equity, and peace. These efforts not only advance FoRB locally but also contribute to Kenya’s broader commitments to safeguard human rights and strengthen democratic governance. @SFCG_Kenya @KeshoAlliance @MUHURIkenya @SFCG_EU @InteriorKE @NCTC_Kenya @KECOSCE @NCIC_Kenya @USEmbassyKenya @cefresa_ke @IRF_Ambassador “Freedom of belief is freedom of dignity—and when communities unite, human rights abuses lose their ground.”

@KECOSCE supported by @denmarkinkenya through @tendasasa , conducted the #rps assesment for beneficiaries from Kwale, Mombasa, and Kilifi counties. The goal was to document the project's progress, outcomes, and the impact of our interventions from the beneficiaries' point of view. During the meeting, participants shared their successes and experiences in climate-smart horticulture, poultry farming, contributions, and benefits from the provision of essential farming equipment and technology, as well as the capacity building sessions in climate-smart techniques. These discussions confirmed that the project significantly improved resilience, food security, and community cohesion through locally-led adaptation initiatives.

In 2025, KECOSCE demonstrated how targeted investments in climate resilience can deliver far reaching social and economic returns. Across Matuga Sub County (Kwale), Kisauni Sub County (Mombasa), and Malindi Sub County (Kilifi), 45 women and youth farming groups were empowered with climate-smart agriculture skills and technologies turning vulnerability into opportunity. With donor support, Kenya Community Support Centre (KECOSCE) provided practical training alongside essential inputs such as water tanks and climate-smart urban farming technologies. This integrated approach ensured that knowledge was immediately translated into action. The results were tangible and transformative. 40 Women and youth groups reported improved household food availability, with families accessing consistent, nutritious vegetables even in the face of climate variability. For youth groups, vegetable production became a reliable income-generating activity, enabling members to sell surplus produce and strengthen their economic independence. Some of these groups reported to be saving an average of 70 shilling on a daily basis and earned up to KES 20,300 in sales and achieving returns of over 70%. Beyond food and income, the investment delivered a critical peace dividend. As livelihoods stabilized, dependence on scarce natural resources declined reducing competition and easing tensions within communities. Throughout 2025, project areas experienced stronger collaboration, improved social cohesion, and more peaceful coexistence. #ClimateAction #foodsecurity #ClimateSmartAgriculture

In 2025, KECOSCE advanced peace and social cohesion by strengthening faith-led civic action through sustained interfaith collaboration and peace dialogues in Kwale, Mombasa and Tana River Counties. Under the #Joint Initiative for Strategic Religious Action - KE , religious leaders from diverse faith including Muslims, Christian, Kaya elders and other traditional faiths engaged in structured dialogues that translated shared values into collective peace and civic action that addressed community tensions, human rights, inclusion, and social cohesion. Dialogue outcomes were transformed into coordinated initiatives, including peace forums, policy advocacy, environmental stewardship, and GBV prevention. Religious leaders also increasingly engaged governance, justice, and peace structures. This approach has reinforced institutional influence, amplified religious leaders' voices. #ReligiousFreedom #faith #ReligiousTolerance

Violent extremism doesn’t start in cities — it grows in silence, unemployment & mistrust. In Ngomeni, we’re breaking that silence. The community came together to strengthen locally driven peacebuilding and prevent violent extremism. The dialogue shed light on unemployment, peer pressure, and the misuse of religion as drivers of vulnerability — but also on the power of collaboration, trust, and awareness to counter them. Through continued capacity building, interfaith dialogue and youth empowerment, Ngomeni is proving that peace is strongest when it grows from within the community. @KenyaKoica @UNDPKenya @StepGithaiga @Phyllis_Muema #CommunityVoices #PVE #Kilificounty

Digital spaces can be both empowering and challenging. We face issues like digital inequality, harassment of influencers, lack of government support, disinformation, hate speech, and resistance to change. To move forward, we need cooperation between governments and civil society, more spaces for youth participation, and stronger digital literacy. Let's work together to create safer online environments and promote positive narratives. What are your thoughts on how we can tackle these challenges? @KECOSCE is proud to be part of the ongoing cross-country Learning on Youth, digital safety, and human rights organised by @Mensenmissie @jisrake #JISRA in #indonesia . In this space, different cultures came together — sharing art, culture, and food — strengthening the fabric of religious cohesion, cultural diversity, and unity of purpose. KECOSCE, through the support of the @jisrake @Mensenmissie and @NLinKenya supported a chief's baraza in Kisumu Ndogo to address violent crime and other community concerns for over 100 residents from Kisumu Ndogo, Mnazi Moja, and Shauriyako villages. KECOSCE supported a chief's baraza in Kisumu Ndogo to address violent crime and other community concerns for over 100 residents from Kisumu Ndogo, Mnazi Moja, and Shauriyako villages. Key issues affecting the residents include the proliferation of drug peddling and abuse among the youth, irresponsible parenting that enables the protection of criminals, a lack of collaboration between the community and the police, and the operation of criminal gangs. The area is also known for hosting pressure groups, and locals are concerned about the suspected ongoing recruitment of their young children into illegal groups that have been clashing in Kidogo Bus, Maweni, and Kisumu Ndogo. Ethnic polarization is evident in access to government opportunities, with some community members accusing local leaders of discrimination, which in turn fuels crime and animosity among pressure groups. Local leaders called for concerted efforts among local peace structures and the public to address crime and insecurity in the area. KECOSCE urged community members to monitor government service delivery and report concerns to rights activists and oversight bodies such as @IPOA_KE, @KNCHRMombasa, and @KECOSCE Alert for appropriate action
