I wrote for @NatGeo about the Indus river dolphin, an endangered species rebounding in numbers thanks to local conservation efforts. "Locally known as bhulan in the Urdu and Sindhi languages, the Indus dolphin has been in the Indus for thousands of years." on.natgeo.com/2BgHcsG

@bollyvfx_ I don't think it's a death stare, i read more as shame and lowkey guilt. Like he knows she wasn't the bad guy but willingly lets her get vilified by his people cause he's too pussy to admit what actually happened between them

sensuality love eroticism are nothing to be ashamed of!!!!!!!!!!! and in fact both islam and the history of lived experience in the lands that islam encompassed fully embraced all of this even what modern narrow minded conservative muslims would shallowly consider ‘haram’

muslims fixation on haram relationships simply reveals their own repression like instead of talking about marriage or how to build a fulfilling and healthy relationship or islamic views on romance you’re fixating on what’s forbidden to you
julaibib@julaibib18

Haraam relationships may seem great, but won't get you anywhere. Most end in despair, hatred or dislike for the person you claimed you'd die for at some point. Rather, fill your heart up with your Maker. He will open up your doors.

in pakistani pop culture heartbreak worth sacralizing and venerating = forever love to the point where heartbreak exalts the love in a way that staying together never could, yearning and all that etc

to be fair the best and most iconic pakistani music is literally divorce/breakup/sad music core from na re na to aamir zaki's mera pyaar to jal's sajni to the current day kaavish and bayaan inventions so kind of makes sense why couples are vibing even to heartbreak music

@endoftheha53 no shit because I'm not going to indulge such an invasive + brown-nosed line of inquiry when it's muslims on twitter who are in fact talking about oMG hARAAAM rELatIONsHIPs every two to five business days instead of minding their own business like the rest of us like nah bye bro

Islam doesn’t focus on repression it sets boundaries to protect meaningful relationships. It encourages love, respect, and fulfillment through marriage, as taught by the Prophet Muhammad. If people only talk about what’s haram, that’s not Islam itself. It’s just how some present it.

@Gypsy_heart8 many slave-concubines literally had their own households and even property and had material and social - sometimes even political- power despite being slaves or bonded via gendered sexual labor. this has been extensively written about

@karachiiite To interact with her companions, not necessarily slaves. Royal concubines indeed had limited powers but they were still owned by the sultan.

Looks like concubines/prostitutes were celebrated during the Islamic golden age. Let’s go back to the unrivaled heights of Islamic civilization.

@Gypsy_heart8 language around it literally frames it as, xyz slave-concubine had slaves of her own. that's what the og post says and that is what travelogues, historians (working at the time, i.e. primary sources), essayists, sex manuals etc have reported as well
