On this day five years ago, Officer Eugene Goodman put his life on the line by standing between a mob of insurrectionists and their goal of violently overturning democracy.
Security camera footage shows that he saved the lives of Mitt Romney, Mike Pence, and many others in the Senate chamber.
I tell my two sons Officer Goodman’s story every year on January 6th. I hope they grow up to be brave, selfless, and unflinching just like him.
