🎥 REVIEW: “The Life of David Gale” (2003) Reviewing for my Laura Linney study. She’s good in this, but she’s not a major player. The story is really about the real life truth of David Gale, who was strongly opposed to the death penalty. If you can stomach Kevin Spacey, and I know that’s a big ask these days, you should watch this film. It’s really disturbing… Rated 085/100

🎥 REVIEW: “The Squid and the Whale” (2005) I was so glad when this was over. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy it. The poster claims it’s painfully funny. I guess I missed the humor in it. First let me say this—the performances were magnificent. Perhaps it hit me differently because I went through a parental divorce when I was 7. This is a depressing look at reality. I loved it. 🎥 REVIEW: “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” (2005) I don’t know any of the details as far as what was real and what was added for dramatic effect in this “based on a true story” horror courtroom thriller. What I can say is that the exorcism scenes are intense and the courtroom arguments are mild. The acting is brilliant and the story flows pretty well. I was entertained… Rated 074/100

🎥 REVIEW: “What Dreams May Come” (1998) I will start by saying this film is visually stunning. That was an Academy Award well spent. I didn’t get what some will from this film because of my personal beliefs on the afterlife. I love that the film demonstrates the cruelty of life, but didn’t find any respite in the articulation of the world after life ends. I suppose the gestures are romantic, but they didn’t fully land for me… Rated 069/100

🎥 REVIEW: “Old Dogs” (2009) The film is actually an insult to human intelligence. It tells us that family films have to be stupid and include characters that make insane decisions, doing and saying things that no real person would. John Travolta should particularly be ashamed. Tarantino gave him his career back by casting him in “Pulp Fiction” (1994) and he goes and does this with that resurrection. Honestly, I can’t believe it scored this highly… 041/100

🎥 REVIEW: “Jack” (1996) Robin Williams was unlike any actor who’s ever been. He was a master impressionist. I don’t mean that as in he can accurately impersonate others. I mean you could conjure an idea for a character that was beyond belief in real life and describe it to him. He would impersonate what you created as himself. That was his brilliance. And it resonates in this film and all across his body of work… Rated 071/100
