@DavQuinn There is enough evidence to support it plays a role - mortgage arrears are (for instance) almost as bad in Finland as here, perhaps housing sustainability concern plays a role too, but it doesn't explain the majority of it

In Finland, housing is much more affordable than here but their fertility rate is even lower than ours (1.25 vs 1.47). The decline in birth is not only related to housing costs.

The left don't understand what people mean when they talk about immigration. The asylum seeker levels are still above last year, Brits are leaving, EU migration is down, but non-EU is still c. 350k. Conservatives caused the most damage (2022), but at least own your bad stats.
Shabana Mahmood MP@ShabanaMahmood

Net migration down 82%. Net migration is now at 171,000, down from a high of 944,000 under the Conservatives. This Government is restoring order and control to our borders.

#Greece has been ranked #1 in the EU for mortgage or rent payment arrears every single year from 2010 through 2025 — that is exactly 16 consecutive years at the top, with its rate at ~10.5% in 2025, still more than double the second-ranked country (Ireland at ~5.3%). The highest increase over the full period was found in Greece, rising from 31% in 2010 to 43% in 2024 on the broader arrears measure, and the specific mortgage/rent arrears indicator in the Eurostat databrowser confirms Greece remains firmly in first place in 2025 as well.

You can be entirely pro-immigration and entirely anti-immigration (from these countries) at the same time and it isn't racist, xenophobic or any of the branding the far left want to tag you with. It's caring of the women and children here, and recognising integration odds.

37,970 small boat migrants (mostly young men) arrived from just five countries: Eritrea, Afghanistan, Sudan, Iran and Somalia. Nationalities that we know are over represented in crime statistics and pose a disproportionate risk to British society - especially women & girls.

Facts It's great that Jeff Bezos thinks this way, because too many people who don't make money think that giving money to the government will solve a lot of their problems. They think these government programs are the answer, and it's clearly not. You can look at the federal level or at the state level, and you will see that a lot of government programs are simply waste.

Worldwide Epidemic of unaffordability
Apostolos Klitsoyiannis@apostolos_kl

Global ownership affordability— median house price-to-income, 2023 #Global #HousingCrisis Housing affordability challenges remain pervasive across the world, with most countries experiencing housing markets that are “seriously”,“severely” or even “impossibly” unaffordable. nearly 96 per cent of countries fall into one of these categories, reflecting a widening misalignment between housing prices and household incomes. Globally, average price-to-income ratios have risen from 9.3 in 2010 to 11.2 in 2023. In more than half of all countries, the price‑to‑income ratio exceeds 9, meaning that a median‑income household would require over nine years of income to purchase a median‑priced home – the margin for being classified as impossibly unaffordable.

@dannyribar Even living standards are not 'standard', local variance makes a lot of this stuff very subjective

In my view, none of the numbers are telling a story in context. That’s the pitfall of any statistics. Amazing number in one may be entirely cancelled by another one. Minimum wage should always be contracted with standard of living and associated costs. Otherwise it’s doing disservice to information.

@avidseries @EndWokeness I don't think that's objectively true - interracial murders don't match the population cohorts, so the resultant choice of victims infers a choice or selection bias.

I'm sympathetic to the points you're making, but my question to you was about this one specific incident: Is there any evidence in this case that the alleged assailants were racially motivated? If there is, then the story may be of national interest. If there isn't, it's a local story. There are 100s of interracial homicides each year, and most of them are not racially motivated. There's no reason I can think of for there to be a "national outrage" over as murder where no racial animus or motivation was involved.

The US homicide rate has fallen dramatically since its peak of 10.3 per 100,000 in 1980. After a COVID-era spike, it's back down to 5.0 in 2024, and preliminary numbers suggest 2025 and 2026 may come in even lower.
