Some causes of burnout

After working in A&E for just a little over a month, I thought I'd share my experiences as one of the front line doctors facing the current/ongoing crisis happening across our country. A quarter through my placement, I already feel burned out and morally fatigued. 1/20.

What has been seen today on @C4Dispatches is sadly not isolated.Our members are doing their best in a system in crisis. It should galvanise those who form the next Goverment into action. This is not okay. This should not be normalised. Patients & our members deserve better

I would hand my NMC pin back tomorrow, if I could. Just need to fond a job that pays enough and interests me. Cannot provide the standard of care my patients deserve. Never enough equipment, staff or capacity and nobody is listening. #c4dispatches

Yesterday the local paper published a story and a video showing the conditions of the A&E where I work; over 30 in a corridor and patients waiting days for a bed This is NOT the fault of the staff who work there; from managers to nurses to doctors, we are trying out best in appalling conditions. The crisis seen is a systematic failure of the NHS which is replicated in A&Es up and down the country and on every single day of the year now. Its happening ultimately because of political decisions. We are lucky that we live in a democracy. Soon we will have the chance to decide if we wish to continue with the current policies which have led the NHS to the precipice of destruction or vote for change. It doesn’t need to be like this. I know this cannot be just an ED nursing problem, but so far this has been my only experience that I can reflect on.

On my first International Nurse’s Day as a Registered Nurse I am at my worst with my MH. 8 months into my career post-qualifying and I’m considering whether I made a mistake.

The diverse clinical skills and knowledge sets needed in between band 5 RN roles is extreme between specialities. As much as I respect and appreciate every and all RNs I do believe there should be some discussion around competency based incentives and a pay scale to reflect this.
