South Africa allocate $6.09 billion a year for roads maintenance. Ghana allocate $2.5 billion a year for roads maintenance. Kenya allocate $890 million a year for the same purpose. Rwanda, Morocco, Namibia, Ethiopia all follow suit. Why? Because these countries have understood the code that maintenance is a crucial part in infrastructure and most African governments appreciate implementation and commissioning phases neglecting maintenance. These are tips contractors won't sit down to teach governments because they assume they know. Until then most of the roads delivered will look great in the first 5-10 years and then reality kicks in. Negligence is a huge threat to infrastructure.

There is something deeply wrong with this government’s obsession with 6–8 storey markets. It’s not just out of touch, it’s economically illiterate. Let’s talk facts. Gikomba Market was demolished for a multi-storey idea. Githurai Market already has a storey market, yet many traders didn’t move in. Why? Because this model ignores how markets actually work. In local markets, people don’t “shop”, they move. Someone stops, buys shoes in 3 minutes, and leaves. Now be honest, who is climbing 6 floors to do that and maybe that same item is on the ground floor or outside? Most people won’t. And don’t compare this to malls. Malls and markets serve completely different behaviors: Malls ar emostly for leisure, planned shopping Markets are mostly for speed, necessity, survival Also, let’s stop pretending everyone shops in malls. The majority of people in Nairobi don’t. Informal markets are the real everyday economy. So what happens in these storey markets? Ground floor: overcrowded Upper floors: empty We’ve seen this pattern again and again in nairobi. Ground floor full , top floors vacant. Yet the same mistake keeps being repeated. Why? Because this is not about traders. It’s about: -Rent maximization per floor -“Modern” photos for PR -Using less land on paper Not real economic thinking. This is bad planning.

I’ve eaten Del Monte pineapples, and the difference is NOT normal. They are: Sweeter (higher sugar levels) Less acidic Much stronger flavour This is largely because they use the MD2 variety, a hybrid bred for high sugar, low acidity, and long shelf life. But here’s the uncomfortable part: Most farmers in Uganda, Kenya, and across East Africa still grow older varieties like Smooth Cayenne, more acidic, less sweet, and less consistent. So the question is: Why aren’t better varieties widely adopted locally? Access to planting material? Cost? Or systems that favour large-scale producers of the acidic ones? Because when you taste the difference, you’re not just tasting fruit, you’re tasting genetics, agronomy, and supply chains.

Two facts: 1. They belong to one person. 2. Using the SGR for such kind of transportation is something we must encourage to reduce the load on our poorly maintained roads. The money has been looted a good one and now it's being poured back into the local economy.

My friend Humphrey Wattanga came to KRA as its Commissioner General with the highest credentials of any occupant of that office since. But he came in tiptoeing quietly, served his term quietly & has left quietly. KRA is yet to be transformed as a catalyst for economic change. Instead, it remains a Government ATM! Public leadership at its top echelons like KRA CG demands an individual that comes in & leaves real change that is visible, verifiable & impactful. Sadly, my friend has left KRA where it was. I had so much faith in Humphrey. As he leaves like a thief in the night, am sad that maybe we expect too much from those with impeccable academic credentials. Maybe whom we need is a village bulldozer not an ALLIANCE BOY!

I have always wondered why the govt must import fuel for us Why not let OMCs like shell and total import their fuel and sell? Only import oil for strategic reserve and to ensure stability of price and supply?

KPLC, it’s time to end this token nonsense. Most Kenyans don’t need SMS. Most don’t need to key in codes. Just make it simple: Pay -- tokens reflect -- power comes back instantly. Anything else in 2026 is inefficiency. Respect your customers.

The report reveals that the arrest of officials linked to a fuel import probe follows claims that fuel was imported outside the G-to-G deal to cover a 114.7M-litre shortage. The cargo was priced at about $290 per tonne, compared to about $84 per tonne under the G-to-G arrangement. The shipments were also flagged for high sulphur levels.

While nations like the US or China treat fuel as a strategic asset to be kept cheap to fuel growth, many African administrations treat it as a primary revenue source. By taxing fuel so heavily, the state is essentially taxing the motion of the economy. It’s a self-defeating cycle: they need the tax to pay the Sh12.3 trillion debt, but the tax slows down the very businesses that generate the revenue to pay that debt.

Kenya is considering lowering fuel VAT from 16% as global fuel prices rise due to the Iran conflict. This comes ahead of the April 15 fuel price review, as taxes already make up a big share of pump prices

Ruto Has a Secret Device Kenyans Were Never Meant to See. In his ear, he has a KSh 150 million device that is used for the following: 1. Transmit real-time intelligence directly into the brain. 2. Analyze conversations instantly and suggest responses. 3. Monitor emotional reactions of people nearby. 4. Even filter what the wearer hears in crowded environments. What makes it even more intriguing is that the device can also send signals directly from his brain, allowing him to silently communicate with his security team in case of danger without speaking a single word.
