We write about/from Guwahati focussing on more-than-human entanglements to briefly outline how animals reveal otherwise hidden urban places, processes & state logics that not only affect animal-human lives but decidedly shape the city's own urban trajectory @ScotGeogJournal 1/n
Shruti Ragavan@RagavanShruti

@kashqueeri @SnehaGutgutia @Shubhangi1057 & I use an entanglements framework to think/write about animals' geographies from an overlooked city #Guwahati - a 'South within the South' in @ScotGeogJournal. @UEcologies Do take a look: tandfonline.com/eprint/CYVKTSM…

@Junaid_Mattu Ajmer and Nizamuddin are Sufi shrines of local saints and not a mosque or temple. I am not in support of any kind of ban or permission seeking for visiting a place. It's bizarre when one does it, it's still bizarre when everyone does it. So.

@Junaid_Mattu @shehryar_khanum You putting this up here shows not only your frustration but also your lack of understanding of the fabric of human existence. If you think this question matters given the destruction and death in Iran, it's for generating unnecessary polarisations. This is irrelevant.

Apparently the fact that Israel has massacred 70,000 men, women and children in Gaza and is doing that in Iran now is about Kashmiri Pandits?? Whenever a Muslim child is brutalized or killed anywhere in the world - blown apart limb to limb - “what about Kashmiri Pandits?”

Beautiful film, watched this on Saturday. If they’re showing in your city, do watch! It is in Kashmiri but they have subtitles, so non-Kashmiris can also watch. Follow @searchkashmir for where to watch.
Aanchal Magazine@AanchalMagazine

Walls of abandoned homes crumble as they bear the toll of exodus, the weight of loss lingers through generations. Many withered away yearning for return to their beloved Kashmir. The movie 'Batt Koch' captures all nightmares, memory loss, next generation's search for a 'home'

Not a fan of Kashmiris. But they did! From schools students, private employees, business owners, government employees to regular everyday people took to the streets in Kashmir, condemning Pahalgam attack.
Suraj Kumar Bauddh@SurajKrBauddh

I've a question for Kashmiris; Today, a large number of people staged a massive protest at Chowk Clock Tower after the assassination of Khamenei. Good. Did the same people assemble in such large numbers after the Pahalgam terror attack? Do you know the reason? People know it.

Take the word krāl (potter) in Kashmiri language. In almost all Modern Indo-Aryan languages except Nepali and Sinhalese the term for potter derives from the Sanskrit kumbhakāra. Kashmiri, however, stands apart. It retains the older Vedic word 'kulāl'.

People whining in thr QTs should absolutely be made aware that Kashmiri pandit families, including yours truly, would offer fresh, raw goat blood and sacrificed goat head, to the Bhairava/His Gana-s, during Hara Raatri. Would be fun to see that meltdown.

Very successful Herath/Mahashivratri. Thanks to @pratiba_sk I had my share of Mahaprasad. Clockwise from bottom left • Roghan Josh • Kalia • Matz • Lidr Tsamun • Laal Tsamun

Yesterday was Salaam Doh, I will give some not-so-widely known information as Herath kharch to the new generation of Kashmiri Pandits who are keen to understand the difference between our celebration of Maha Shivaratri and the way it is observed across the rest of the country. Shivaratri is not a wedding anniversary. Shiva Parvati were married in Margshirsha. Shiva Sati in Chaitra. So this night was never originally about a celestial wedding. It marks something far greater. Shiva appeared as the endless pillar of light. No beginning. No end. When Brahma and Vishnu tried to find its limits, they failed. Ego failed. Measurement failed. Only the Infinite remained. Across India, Shivaratri is often celebrated through fasting, temple visits, and reverence for the divine couple. In the Kashmiri Pandit tradition, which draws deeply from Kashmir Shaivism, the focus is more INWARD. It is not only about devotion but about realization. Shiva is not merely a deity to be worshipped. He is pure consciousness. The night represents the revelation of that boundless awareness. This is where our ritual of Vatuk Pooja becomes central. This year was my first Vatuk Pooja, and instead of simply performing it, I wanted to understand it. The vessels we worship, initially starting in the chokas of the house, symbolize Shiva, Shakti, and the entire cosmic order. Filled with water and walnuts, they represent the universe contained within the home. The walnut, rough on the outside and intricate within, mirrors the human mind and the hidden layers of awareness. Most celebrate the marriage out of reverence and easy way to understand Shiv Shakti. Very few pause to reflect on what truly appeared that night. For me, this Shivaratri was less about ritual and more about inquiry. Less about repetition and more about meaning. If we are to pass Herath to the next generation, perhaps we must pass not only the walnuts and the vessels, but also the questions.

@MattLaemon KPs don't celebrate it as a wedding out of convenience. There is a tradition backing it. It is union of Shiva and Shakti in presence of devas, bharavas and ganas. People host the ritual as a "re-witness". Shiv lagun and Shiv parinaya are models of kp weddings.
