Happy birthday to one of the greatest. ❤️ This album gets me every time. A genuine emotional roller coaster. (Five years ago Gil Scott-Heron’s estate wanted me to direct a documentary about him. Wherever that project is today I hope and wish a heartfelt doc will be made.)

Stoke Newington & Dalston, March 29, 2026. Visited old friend Val Wilmer, bought books at Cafe Oto, expanded my knitted vest collection at thrift store, met up with A Century In Sound dir after Rio Cinema screening (2 Barbican dates added). Notable escape attempt from dark times.

Slightly too active with personal film projects this year but eventually managed to catch up on the last few nominated films. Such a pleasure to be reminded about how much great filmmaking there is out there.

RIP Frederick Wiseman and thank you for your films. Great filmmaker and a giant of an example of what it means to maintain full control over your creative work. Bought these from his distribution company Zipporah Films that he created to distribute his own docs. Love and respect.

@_motherslug Vineland is the only book by Pynchon I’ve read. It’s over 30 years ago. I need to catch up.

20 pages left in Against the Day but I'm holding off because I've been too stressed to properly receive it. In a better spot now, but I picked up Vineland and read the first page... how do I not just keep going? Love anyway!

Indeed was recorded on Nov 4, 1956. Owen Marshall wrote the tune Gaza Strip. I’ve been trying to understand when he wrote it. Was it a then current political statement related to the Kahn Yunis massacre on Nov 3 or the Kafr Quasim Oct 29, 1956? Or was it an older composition?

One of my favorite albums with Lee Morgan. ❤️ I wanted to use the track ”Roccus” in my documentary I Called Him Morgan. For unknown reasons Horace Silver said no to the request. Instead I chose Gaza Strip from this album.
Ana@_motherslug

#NowPlaying I always wanna hear Lee Morgan. This one is his 1956 debut as leader and opening track "Roccus" (a Horace Silver joint) totally rips. One of the catchiest piano lines ever put to tape.

RIP Sven-Åke Johansson, drum legend from Mariestad, Sweden. Thank you for the music. He participated on classic albums such as Brötzmann’s Machine Gun and For Adolpe Sax, my favourite with him (I do love solo drumming albums) is Schlingerland / Dynamische Schwingungen (SÅJ 1972).
