Please have mercy. Israeli attacks across Gaza have killed at least 29 people so far today, including at least three people in a strike on the only Catholic church in the besieged territory. @Pontifex please help the innocent.

@johncreedon you just stopped me in my tracks with SukiYaki! I was brought back to the city of Okayama, Japan where I was teaching English waiting for the beginning of the world cup and it was 2002. I learned this for the school show and it was a total hit.

"If you believe that what a satirical band who play characters on stage do is more outrageous than the murdering of innocent Palestinians, then you need to give your head a fucking wobble.” We did a wee feature interview ahead of Glastonbury with the Guardian... 👉theguardian.com/music/2025/jun…

The Elders
The Elders@TheElders·
Mary Robinson, Chair of The Elders, comments on South Africa's case against Israel at the @CIJ_ICJ: "South Africa has shown moral leadership in bringing its application to the ICJ under the Genocide Convention, to protect the Palestinian people in Gaza. It is right and proper that Israel is answering these charges in a court of law. All states have an international legal obligation to act to prevent genocide. Pending the ICJ’s decision on provisional measures, all possible steps must be taken to halt and prevent further atrocity crimes. I reiterate the Elders’ call for an immediate ceasefire and the full application of international law."

Mary Robinson reacts to the release of the draft text at #COP28: “It is not good enough to say you recognise and respect the science but then fail to take heed of its dire warnings in the collective action you commit to. It is not good enough to note with ‘alarm and serious concern’ the findings of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report and the damage being caused by climate change but then fail to put in place the steps the science recommends. It is not good enough to say you reaffirm the Paris Agreement but to then fail to commit to a full fossil fuel phase out. It is not good enough to use weak language or to permit loopholes for the fossil fuel industry to continue to contribute to the very problem countries are meant to be committed to tackling here in Dubai. Adequate time and opportunity still lie ahead, provided that nations promptly return to the negotiating table, equipped with the resolve required for a crisis of this magnitude and a readiness to undertake the necessary measures. This current version of the COP28 text is grossly insufficient.” Mary Robinson, Chair of The Elders #DraftText #COP28UAE
