ગુજરાતમાં ગત બે દાયકામાં ન થયો હોય એ પ્રકારનો અસાધારણ કમોસમી વરસાદ આ વર્ષે થતા રાજ્યના વિવિધ જિલ્લાના ખેડૂતોના પાકને મોટું નુકસાન થયું છે. આ સંદર્ભે, મેં તથા મારા સાથી મંત્રીશ્રીઓએ જુદા-જુદા જિલ્લાઓમાં જઈને અસરગ્રસ્ત ખેડૂતોની સાથે પ્રત્યક્ષ વાતચીત કરીને તેમની સ્થિતિ જાણી હતી. કુદરતી આપત્તિની આ ઘડીમાં ધરતીપુત્રોની વ્યથાને સમજીને રાજ્ય સરકાર પૂરી સંવેદનાથી તેમની પડખે ઊભી છે. રાજ્યભરના ખેડૂતોના પાકને થયેલા વ્યાપક નુકસાન સામે તેમની લાગણીને ધ્યાને રાખીને રાજ્ય સરકાર દ્વારા ધરતીપુત્રો માટે આશરે રૂપિયા 10 હજાર કરોડના રાહત-સહાય પેકેજની જાહેરાત કરું છું. આ ઉપરાંત, રાજ્ય સરકાર 9 નવેમ્બરથી ખેડૂતો પાસેથી ટેકાના ભાવે આશરે રૂ. 15,000 કરોડથી વધુના મૂલ્યની મગફળી મગ, અડદ અને સોયાબીનની ખરીદી કરવા પણ જઈ રહી છે. અન્નદાતાઓની આર્થિક સુખાકારીની ચિંતા પોતાના માથે લઈને રાજ્ય સરકાર તેમની સહાયતા માટે હંમેશા પ્રતિબદ્ધ હતી, છે અને રહેશે તેવો વિશ્વાસ આપું છું.

In 2003, Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, one of India's most distinguished historians, had published the definitive biography of our national song Vande Mataram that had been written by Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay. On January 24, 1950, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, who was in the Chair, began that final day's proceedings of the Constituent Assembly thus: "The composition of the words and music known as Jana Gana Mana is the National Anthem of India...and the song Vande Mataram, which has played a historic part in the struggle for Indian freedom, shall be honoured equally with Jana Gana Mana and shall have equal status with it.” Rabindranath Tagore had first sung Vande Mataram in the Dec 1896 session of the Indian National Congress in Kolkata. Subsequently, he was to play the most crucial role in determining the place of Vande Mataram in our public life as reflected in the Congress Working Committee resolution of October 29, 1937. On Jana Gana Mana itself, another eminent historian Rudrangshu Mukherjee has just brought an authoritative account that debunks the nonsense peddled by the RSS/ BJP distorian brigade. Between 1872 and 1876, Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay had also written five essays called Samya that were a scathing indictment of ages-old caste-based inequalities in India. These essays originally in Bengali were translated into English as Equality by Bibek Debroy in 2002.
