THE RIVER WILD (1994) is absolutely one of my top 5 movies of all time (not a surprise since I write survival mysteries/thrillers), but RIVER WILD (2023)...what were they trying to do here?

You're being held hostage by numerous bad guys. You get ONE phone call for help, but it HAS to be the hero of the last book you read. No cheating! Who is it, and are you making it home alive or not? (FYI - my call would be to James Reece. I think I'm going to be okay LOL.)

Fingers crossed that THE DIPLOMAT on #Netflix fills the void that HOMELAND left in my spy genre-loving heart.

AIR is the best movie I have seen in years, what a delight. The writing, the acting, the directing...I honestly loved every minute of it. #AIRMovie

@ParanormalJunk2 Yeah that's definitely me, way too tired to write at night or early morning, I've got a high-pressure day job and three kids who constantly need me, and if I can write a chapter a week, it's a win.

So sick of young dudebros doing productivity podcasts. I want a middle aged woman with a bunch of kids and a demanding job who also writes novels and is trying to make a career as a writer to make a podcast about how to do it. Because yes that’s me but fuck me I’m winging it.

@adrianmckinty I feel like that's often true for this genre. I stuck with THE RECRUIT on Netflix because the chemistry there was so strong.

I think for this to work there had to be incredible chemistry between the leads. There isn't. It's nobody's fault. It's just one of those things. Anyone who has ever seen anything will suss out the twist. However, if it wasn't all CGI magic Carmel, CA looks v nice though.

It's been a while since I've read a book in a day (including at my 3 y/o's gymnastics class, where he got injured and I didn't even notice), but I was utterly captivated by EVERY SUMMER AFTER by @CarleyFortune.

@blakecrouch1 I agree, so many possibilities with this set-up. You should write it!

@cmattwrite Yeah the internet is great, but it helps to have something tangible!

Finished edits on Book 3 in my National Park Mystery series, which means I'm thinking hard about Book 4...first step is to buy a topographical map of my chosen locale. #amwriting 🌲🌨️🏞️🦌

@LeilaSalesBooks Some screenwriters do this, but definitely not all. It's generally done to emphasize a place or thing within a block of action. I would never do it as I find that readability is more important than stage direction (the most recent episode of Scriptnotes covered this).

Can someone who understands screenplays explain to me the rhyme and reason of why some stage directions appear in all caps? Like "Matt walks into THE HOUSE ON THE CORNER. Will his MORBID BEST FRIEND be there? The kitchen is FULL OF KNIVES." We don't do this in books!

Spent the weekend on vacation with my 5 y/o and thanks to no internet whatsoever, I got to read two fantastic books: The Island by @adrianmckinty and Aurora by David Koepp. Both are about ordinary people doing extraordinary things to survive, ie my favorite genre.
