🎉@vonderleyen has been re-elected as @EU_Commission President! Congratulations on your second term! We cannot agree more with you: to build a strong Europe that delivers prosperity, protects people & defends democracy, the EU must ensure that ALL children are protected.
Ursula von der Leyen@vonderleyen

5 more years. I can’t begin to express how grateful I am for the trust of all MEPs that voted for me.

In your election address, you mentioned key points for better protection of children, from fighting poverty & climate change to safeguarding their mental health. We now need to see this in practice—beginning with the new Commissioners’ mission letters. neighbourhood-enlargement.ec.europa.eu/news/statement…

On behalf of the Alliance for #InvestingInChildren, we are participating in the #ChildGuarantee National Coordinators meeting and presenting our recommendations. With 20M+ children affected by #ChildPoverty in the EU, urgent action is needed. Prioritising the Child Guarantee is crucial for a fairer future, and the participation of civil society is key. The @EU_Commission must work with stakeholders before the 2026 assessment. Read our statement here: bit.ly/3Vh3BeK

Child poverty isn't just a social issue; it's a direct threat to the European project. It takes up to five generations to lift a family out of poverty. Investing in children today is investing in Europe’s future propserity and wellbeing. #EUelections2024 #IAm20Million

It's a sad day for the EU, known as the champion of human rights. The role of civil society & organisations like ours becomes more important than ever, as restrictive #migrationEU policies endanger child rights & fail to address shortcomings of the current asylum system. 2/2

In Europe – one of the world’s wealthiest regions – nearly 1/4 of all children face poverty and social exclusion, and it’s only getting worse. With 2024 #EUelections less than two months away, addressing child poverty must become a central concern for the upcoming European Parliament and Commission agendas. To underscore the urgency of this issue and advocate for tangible actions, Save the Children launches #EndChildPovertyWeek under the banner #IAm20Million. Throughout the week, we'll raise awareness, share crucial information, and push for impactful solutions to alleviate the widespread impact of child poverty on children and families continent-wide. Here's what you can expect: 📜 Launch of an advocacy paper on investing in childhood at the European Parliament in Brussels 🔄 Roundtable discussions on addressing child poverty in EU candidate countries 🌍 Expert meeting on child poverty and the climate crisis 🎥 Release of awareness-raising video clips on the topic Stay tuned and follow #IAm20Million for more 👀

The #ClimateCrisis is an inequality crisis, and children, who are least responsible, suffer the most. With the upcoming #EUelections and a right-shifting Parliament, the robust EU green agenda is at risk. NGOs and international organisations must work closely to ensure a socially just green agenda protects children. As part of the #EndChildPovertyWeek, today's discussions with @Green_Europe @WWFEU and @CANEurope highlighted the critical link between children’s rights, poverty, and climate action. Let's continue this important collaboration for impactful change beyond 2024 🙌
