SCIENCE TEACHERS + LINE MANAGERS If I said "are you interested in a book that contains structured explanations, checks for understanding, misconceptions and independent practice for the *whole* of key stage 3?" what would you say?

I guess what I'm getting at is is there a better way to say this than "the self marking is really important to us as it's a metacognitive activity, and we know there are learning benefits associated with that" ?

Question: I generally don't use the term "metacognition" because I find it vague and in most cases there is a better word. BUT, when it comes to Carousel's quizzes, part of the process is students self-marking, and that's important to us. How would you describe these advantages?

@missdcox This tweet really has hit a nerve. On the one hand, dealing with an issue there and then is of course the way to go but how is this possible with the current situation? We don’t have time to be reactive let alone proactive!!!

How do people justify Year 11 after school revision or holiday sessions with a well planned, sequenced curriculum? Not enough time? resolve with timetabling -school leaders need to make tough decisions Student missed lessons? resolve when they missed it (not wait til year 11)?

@AkiiFPS Start with a blank flow map with just the names of the groups and the arrows. Fill in as much as you can from memory. Mark and correct. Do again in a few days time. And again a week later. And again etc. have it as a weekly to do on your chemistry study plan.

@Primrose_Kitten AQA have now responded. They have said that all students will be awarded full marks for Q11.

This idea circulating a lot this evening. Can any teachers who’ve seen the paper comment on this? TIA

Finally got around to producing retrieval practice questions and answers for all of AQA Trilogy and separate science paper 1 exams. Let me know if anyone wants a copy.

@katylloyd1 Nothing exciting. We were trying to catch up on Homeostasis as due to quite a bit of cover&supply they were behind. They had a booklet to work through, lots of explanation from me&some independent work based on that. The motivation all came from them&their desire to succeed

Absolutely blown away with the amazing work ethic and dedication shown by Year 11 today during their Biology booster session. A full day stuck doing biology with me isn't anyone's idea of fun but they were great

@LessonToolbox We just use set three. We have two bands, a and b. So there are two set one, two set twos and two set threes. Was introduced this year. Worked well so far.

Trying to find an alternative phrase to “bottom set” when describing a set of students who historically have low attainment scores for that subject. “PLA (Previously Low Attainers) set” is my favourite so far. What do you think? #ukedchat #aussieED #pedagoofriday

I have started to created ‘explanation organisers’ where content knowledge is accompanied by a ‘this means that’ as I wanted something that students could use to practice constructing answers from independently #AQA #geographyteacher #ukedchat

Revision of trilogy Chem calculations - identifying calculation TYPE from the question and then colour coding and answering (mixture of modelling and student’s own answers) - good results and increased confidence in students ahead of exam
