Dear PM @narendramodi, yesterday you introduced FCRA amendment bill which is essentially an asset grab by stealth attempt.
Now, I am not sure if you've read the bill, or had your typical photogenic look at the pages.
Whatever the case may be, you may educate yourself by reading what is written below.
This bill transforms regulatory oversight into a mechanism for potential asset appropriation, operational takeover, and selective enforcement, under broadly defined and politically controllable standards.
An Act Full Of Perverse Incentives
1. Asset Capture Mechanism
Section 16A(2): Assets created even partly from foreign contribution vest wholly in the Designated Authority. This creates a powerful incentive for the state to pursue technical or minor violations to trigger cancellation/surrender and capture high-value infrastructure (buildings, hospitals, schools) that may have been primarily funded domestically
Organizations that blend foreign and domestic funding face disproportionate risk: a small foreign grant could jeopardize entire assets.
2. Delaying The Renewal
Certificate cessation under Section 14B triggers provisional vesting. If a "fresh certificate" is not obtained within a "prescribed period", assets become permanently vested. Now administrative delays (deliberate or otherwise) in processing renewals could be used to engineer permanent vesting a "death by procedure" risk.
Government can actually delay the renewal to take over the assets!!!
3. State Takeover of Activities
Section 16A(3)(b) permits the Designated Authority to "undertake the management of activities of the person" if deemed expedient in public interest. This effectively enables state operational control of NGOs under the guise of asset supervision without requiring any proof of wrongdoing.
4. Prohibition on Repurchase - Way to help your cronies
Section 16A(6) proviso bars original functionaries (or anyone acting on their behalf) from acquiring assets disposed of by the Designated Authority. Even if assets are sold at fair market value, the original creators cannot bid eliminating market fairness and potentially depressing asset values to benefit state-connected buyers.

Denying bail for eating biryani and organising an Iftaar party in the Ganga? Firstly, arrest itself is questionable since there is no clear proof of ‘malicious intent’. BUT to then DENY BAIL in a case like this goes against basic thumb rule of ‘bail not jail’. When criminal law begins to ‘police’ plates instead of crimes, the line between justice and sentiment starts to blur! livelaw.in/amp/news-updat…

CM Assam violates his constitutional responsibilities with defiance, even relish
He says he'll do all he can to make Miya citizens feel so unwelcome in his state that they will leave
If this is not a state project of ethnic cleansing, what is?
He disgraces his office & humanity

An astounding video. A constitutionally-appointed Chief Minister talks openly about wanting to make a religious group feel so unwelcome that they leave. And this celeb TV anchor, within a minute, asks him the songs he sings in his campaign.

This government has mishandled every single major crisis. Only the Indian TV media has ensured that this truth is not perceived to be felt severely. But times up for this propaganda. People are waking up, slowly, but surely!

Seeing videos and photographs of @ManvendraJasol circulating across social media -- not for his public work or ideas, but for a deeply personal life decision -- has been truly heartbreaking.
For many, he is a former MP from Barmer-Jaisalmer, a former MLA, a writer, and the son of former Union minister Jaswant Singh. But beyond public life, those who know him have seen a humble, thoughtful individual -- a devoted father, a loyal husband, and a compassionate friend with a liberal outlook on life.
Two years ago, he lost his wife, Chitra Singh, in a tragic car accident -- a loss no public stature can soften. Grief changes people, and sometimes healing begins when companionship returns.
His decision to remarry at 60 should have been welcomed as a sign of hope. Instead, it has led to social judgement and even a purportedly family statement distancing itself from him, a descision reportedly rooted in caste and community boundaries. That is what makes this moment deeply painful.
The right to companionship and personal choice does not expire with age or social expectations. A widower choosing to rebuild his life is not rejecting tradition -- he is choosing to live again.
This episode reminds us that despite progress, remnants of feudal thinking still linger, where honour is placed above empathy and social identity above individual happiness.
For over thirteen years, I have known him as a gentle, reflective person whose conversations reflected openness and intellectual curiosity. Watching a deeply human decision reduced to gossip and outrage is disheartening.
Every individual deserves dignity in grief, freedom in love, and respect for personal choices.
Sometimes the sadness lies not in what a person chooses, but in how society responds.
In solidarity.
