@TychosElk12 @tautologer @Lon even if it is opaque for the duration of processing for some reason, i can imagine the task can be split into two with the initial task relying on the llm to output arguments to a script; the output thereof is fed into the final task of the llm response

@TychosElk12 @tautologer @Lon if i am writing a compiler, i can also use a number (i.e. handle, offset, address) to reference a token object in the future the important thing here is that the tokens references are expanded at some point. why can it not be done earlier?

asking an llm how many letters are in a word is like asking a person what wavelength of light a color is

@MinModulation their html is terrible and you'll have to dig through a few elements with randomised class names to find it but you can still save instagram images with inspect element by getting the cdn link

the internet is a series of farms. apps only exist to harvest user data, which is why reddit begs you to use the app instead of a browser, or why twitter is aggressively anti-external links, or why instagram won't let you save pictures. they want you Here, copying is Unnecessary.
Taelin@VictorTaelin

When the web became so copy-paste hostile? Why can't I ctrl+c an entire WhatsApp chat, thread on X, channel on Discord? Even ChatGPT doesn't allow you to ctrl+c a chat. I don't get it, why people don't demand this? Specially now that we can ctrl+c stuff to AI and ask questions

@tautologer @Lon okay, why? why can it not make sense out of those tokens via semantic analysis? i think the tool should do something to understand the meaning of the input and act accordingly. when you create a compiler, do you just stop once you have an abstract syntax tree?

@kawaipure @Lon they can't because they literally can't see letters. we can look at the individual letters, but the letters are not passed to the model, it literally only gets tokens

@arestlessrest @tautologer as for the indefinite "correct answer", "r" can be taken to mean two things: the character "r" in orthography, and rhotic phonemes in phonology. we typically reference the former with the name of the letter, but not always ("an r sound", etc.)

@arestlessrest @tautologer english speakers already know how to spell strawberry (in fact: they can write the question "how many r's are there in strawberry?") so work from the orthographic representation and you'll get a correct answer (arguably THE correct answer)

@tautologer @Lon humans parse text quite similarly, yet we can parse the question semantically and therefore reiterate the content with a different strategy and algorithmically arrive at the correct answer (usually) realistically chatbots like chatgpt should be able to do the same thing?

@Lon you are misunderstanding the analogy i fear in exactly the same way that you can distinguish between wavelengths of light, llms can distinguish between words but you don't see wavelengths, you see colors; in the same way, an llm doesn't see letters, it sees tokens

@LesbianBiting i suppose that’s because you don't know yourself. if you had a solid foundation, you wouldn’t have any trouble answering such a simple question.

@resiniee @ravishingroses @wumujinki wait no i'm half-wrong, what is shared is r-coloured vowels mandarin has a retroflex r too, but the place of articulation is slightly different still, it should be quite easy for speakers of either group to learn to articulate the r's of the other language

CP means "coupling" and not the American variation. Plus this word is not recommended to describe the more heinous materials. For everyone else, please don't ever come under artists'posts like this, it is incredibly rude.

@aubymori youtube before that was pretty close to a true 2000s website design which was a plain white background and other relatively-simple design elements (remember that they had to support the likes of ie6 back then)

@aubymori i like the screenshot of 2012 youtube, which existed for exactly one year from december 2011 until december 2012, was more reflective of the contemporary ios design than windows aero, and existed at the tail end of the lifetime for aero glass

@OnsteamRando @xandrom_app @NearestCommit statically linking os libraries on windows is fine for forwards compatibility, but it may limit your application to a newer version of the os (for example, if you statically link against dwmapi, then you can't run on xp)

@xandrom_app @NearestCommit 2 things: 1) If (s)hes talking about OS linking (like say dwmapi in win32), always dynamically link. Static linking ties you to a specific OS version. 2) For your own code, dynamically link to components/plugins/[L]GPL.
