To any upcoming artist or a brand ambassador. I had a deal with BETPAWA Ghana @betPawa_Ghana 6 years ago, and they cheated their way through. After winning Ghc 50,000.00 (50k) with just Ghc 4.00 , they called me to come to their office, in fact their marketing manager who for a reason I won't mention his name booked a Bolt all the way from East Legon to Weija SCC to pick me up. When we went, they did me a little interview, did me some photo shoots, it was fun, then they brought me back home. The next day a document was sent to me to sign. I read and didn't think twice to sign. The deal was for me to be the face of the brand together with other two guys, but I was the main, since they were about celebrating their 2 years. According the marketing manager, the campaign was supposed to last for just 3-6 months, he told me any extensive marketing using my face or name would attract an extra compensation, and while signing the document, it was clearly stated in there. Reading the document, I came across a clause that said " I cannot take them to court" but didn't state any reason why I would want to take them to court. Upon seeing that I wanted to find out why I would even want to do that but I also convinced myself " oh what could go wrong?" . I went ahead and signed the paper, and gave it back to them. The said amount was credited into my bet account. Weeks passed, months passed, a year came , almost two years and my photos and name were still being used, even after a year. They were still putting my photos on new bus stop stands and people be like yo, you still have a deal with this people? I be like no. Even at this point I still didn't care until the questions were becoming unbearable. I later reached out to the marketing manager to voice out my disappointment and he didn't even respond or text back. I told him that whenever I get a bigger platform I'll mention their name, but in all I blame myself, I was so young, stupid and wanted that trend and fame. Yes I became famous all over the internet and all over Ghana on billboards and on buses but I still feel cheated cause I outgrew the deal. As an artist, ambassador or an influencer, make sure you don't go signing a deal alone. Make sure you get a lawyer with you or someone who can read and understand the terms and conditions better and can also advise you on what to do and what not to do. If you take the deal as it is even after noticing something was off, you'll one day outgrow the deal and you'd ask for more and that's where chaos always erupts! Yes I regret, and I'm still hurt cause they exploited and rode on my weakness but it's all good, lessons learnt. -JfLy
