@marcoyannic a better way to spin this same number imo is that it means your lifetime risk of dying in a car accident is ~1%

@_ahmetcansolak @github @GitHubCommunity @GitHubHelp I get the issue but there might be too little horizontal space when the browser window is around 1000px wide (which it often is). What about a shortcut to momentarily switch to preview mode? (something like shift+enter to 'evaluate' the markdown)

Here is a UX/UI idea that can boost productivity on @github : Rendering Write and Preview tabs side-by-side on the new issue/new PR pages. Life would be much better if I didn't need to go between Write and Preview tabs back and forth. @github @GitHubCommunity @GitHubHelp

@marcoyannic @DanielSerwas Just saw the greatest helical pitch I think I’ve ever seen - looks closer to horizontal than vertical (this was a whitebark)

Tree trunks are helical. Not all, but many of them, and mostly right-handed. Can't unsee this since I started paying attention. (Turns out, German has a word for this: Drehwuchs. h/t @DanielSerwas)

@marcoyannic @kwinkunks if there's a style violation there I would say it's the use of the variable name `df` which commits the dual sins of being too generic and confusing naming with typing🙈

Neat little trick to import data from a google sheet directly into a pandas dataframe. The google sheet needs to be public to anyone with the link. h/t @kwinkunks

@loicaroyer this is a very misleading tweet. monkeypox *DNA* has been detected in wastewater in SF but there's no evidence that monkeypox can spread via wastewater (nor even that live virus can be detected in wastewater, afaik). and it already *is* endemic, just not in western countries

What's the best way of making datasets (raw files, MATLAB .mat files, paper figs) open-source prior to publication? I want to ultimately cite a github repo that will have access to everything, but not sure if just uploading these (some worth many gb!) is best

Some scientific illustrations become memes*, some turn into cultural icons. It requires a combination of originality, aesthetic, simplicity and scientific accuracy. Here are some of them 🧵 1/n *memes in the original sense: units of cultural inheritance that replicate and evolve
