“We are facing serious threats to press freedom—stories are being shut down, media independence is under siege, and journalists are increasingly unable to carry out their core mandate. The fight against corruption cannot be won without a free, ethical, and professional press. While we push back against censorship, unfair regulation, and defamation laws misused to silence reporters, we must also acknowledge that we lack a robust self-regulation system to hold journalists accountable. Strengthening self-regulation, alongside fair and independent media oversight, is essential to building public trust and safeguarding press freedom.”
