I’m an older millennial. We had a pretty great run. We grew up with actual childhoods before everything moved online, but we still got the internet early enough to understand it before it took over everything. We had landlines, AIM, mall culture, good music, and just enough technology to make life fun without making it weird. Old enough to remember life before smartphones. Young enough to adapt to all of it. That was a sweet spot.

Eric Chou's AI Networking Cookbook inspired me to capture some recent thoughts I've had about using LLMs in the #homelab at kd9cpb.com/2026-neteng-ho…. A 20+ year old Fry's Electronics advertisement is a perfect reminder: technology evolves, but some things remain the same!

New Year New Blogpost! kd9cpb.com/ccnp-2025 blabs all about my #CCNP #CCNA renewal journey that's due by September. No more #homelab fun until I stop procrastinating on completing these continuing education classes :)

I know tonight is all about Santa’s work up on the housetop, but I finally got the time to write about the antenna improvements he’ll squeeze through coming down our chimney at kd9cpb.com/roof-upgrade 😂 Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to all! #amateurradio #hamr #hamradio

Slowly making my way through this Cisco U PRNE course, and fighting the panic. I don't think I have to get pulled down every rabbit hole, but I don't like skipping over fundamentals either. Interpreted language - does not have to be compiled. got it. Object oriented confuses me.

BREAKING NEWS: Today I used a VGA cable that I kept in my box of random cables since 2003 in case I might need it.

@andylapteff If you can get your hands on some old GBIC or SFPs, dirty & overbent fiber to get low light levels is absolutely your friend when it comes to generating CRCs. Ask me how I know ;)

I jacked up a T-568B cross connect cable to see if I can generate CRC errors for our discord’s #CCNA study group. They couldn’t generate CRCs in emulation because CRC = layer 1. Will connecting blue to brown create CRC errors? Why or why not? We’re testing it tonight!

I've been working on a graphic to make teaching #IPv6 subnetting a little easier for engineers that are transitioning from #IPv4. One of the challenges I've run across is that textbook & training examples often use very simple patterns to illustrate IPV6 subnetting. However, when faced with a random assignment of a /48 prefix from an ISP, it's harder for engineers to wrap their head around how letters and numbers increment and where in the prefix that happens. Here is an example of a "real-world" IPv6 prefix (using the doc prefix) and we got from a /32 to a /48. Hope this is helpful!

@j_vonbuck You’re most welcome! I’ve done similar for 2.4 through 3.1 without issues. Haven’t tried anything above 3.1 yet

@kd9cpb Awesome, thank you! Did you have any issues running ISE inside EVE or any limitations that you ran into? I need to try different patches and have different versions. Different version have separate VM’s.

Those that use EVE-NG and have ISE labs, did you deploy ISE within EVE or as a separate VM and connect to your lab through external connectors? Is there a reason to choose one over the other?
