@ShipperSapphic it’s crazy that this debate keeps happening & it seems like no one’s got a clue as to why they’re not agreeing (and won’t ever). and granted, i grew up in a border city so i’ve got more context and knowledge into the US than others, but i still don’t think it’s hard to figure out

@kdanverz Thank you for writing this thread I'm neither Mexican (in any sense) nor a resident of North America, so am not hugely aware of any of this, but your perspective is interesting and sounds solid

ppl on here have the same discourse about mexicans vs mexican americans every few weeks and apparently don’t realize it’ll never end bc none of y’all can accept there’s nuance to all of this, nor are you willing to understand each side defines ethnicity/nationality differently

and this is why this debate will never be over. you will just have to learn to agree to disagree bc you’ll never align because the CONCEPTS are different depending on where you grew up. (whether that is an indication of where you’re truly from, that’s on y’all to figure out 😉)

it’s evident in discourse like MAs viewing gringo as a word for white people, whereas for us it means anyone born in the US. it makes sense that to MAs it means a white person bc to them mexican is more in line with ethnicity.
