President @Isaac_Herzog this evening, awarded the Israeli Presidential Medal of Honor to the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier. President Herzog said, “You are a true friend of Israel and the Jewish people, and a rare voice of moral clarity on the international stage. I am honored to present you this award, surrounded by so many who have contributed to our important relationship, and especially in the presence of hostages who were returned to Israel after being held captive by Hamas in Gaza. We want to see them all home immediately - every last one of them. “From October 7th till today, you and Germany have stood by our side with courage and determination. As President of Germany, your visit to Kibbutz Be’eri, your meeting with survivors of the massacre, with families of the victims and hostages, together with your powerful statement that “Hamas is attacking not only Israel – but all of humanity” are etched in our hearts. “On behalf of the people of Israel – on behalf of the generations who remember and those yet to come – I thank you for your steadfast friendship in our most difficult hours. As you said: the friendship between Germany and Israel is a gift – and it is also a responsibility.”
