A newborn's first stool is sterile. It contains everything the baby swallowed in the womb: amniotic fluid, skin cells, lanugo, bile.
It has no smell because there are no gut bacteria yet.
The clock starts ticking the moment they're born, and if they don't pass it within 48 hours, we start asking serious questions.
