This is literally what sterilizing means. It just has to prevent replication and disease progression. What these people think is the goal is literally impossible. There is no medical prophylactic that can prevent infection if your infection dose is high enough, and COVID's whole deal is that there is a butt ton of it in infectious doses. That's why we still say to wear a respirator. No plan for COVID doesn't involve needing a respirator, and I think that's what people hear. I think they hear this means we don't need a respirator anymore.

That's not what sterilizing means. It just needs to be able to block infection at all, which Novavax does by producing SIgA. No vaccine can block infection entirely; they can only stop disease progression. Which Novavax does. It's a sterilizing vaccine, but it could be more sterilizing. I don't understand what people think they are going to lose by admitting that Novavax creates a sterilizing effect. People act as if they admit it, then it's the end of vaccines for COVID. Novavax is a sterilizing vaccine, again, no vaccine stops infection entirely, they only stop disease progression. Having this demand is in denial of how vaccines and our immune system function. They data is clear, an SIgA response is all that's required for a vaccine to be sterilizing if it has a lower respiratory response as well. Novavax is sterilizing but we still need more, this getting so many shares is depressing because its spreading minimizing disinformation.
