Ryan Coogler breaking down the little-known aspects of film to get audiences interested is what we all needed after the pandemic’s impact on the theatrical experience. He reminded folks about the magic of moviemaking again, & that’s why Sinners has remained top of mind for almost a year.

Where is the pathway for upcoming/emerging voices at these award shows/festivals? It seems like the only talent that gets acknowledgement is the rich and famous people we already know. The next Ryan Coogler and Ava DuVernay are already among us—but we don’t know then because they’re not being given a chance to shine!

Yesterday I wrote that Timothée Chalamet should’ve won the #Oscar last year for A Complete Unknown. I put my head on the pillow last night & woke up this morning and realized how wrong I was. Colman Domingo moved mountains in Sing Sing last year. This man - not Chalamet, not Brody- deserved the award. Sing Sing deserves to be seen by many more people. If you haven’t had an opportunity to see this film, you should try to watch. I cried my ass off because this is a film that reminds us all that art & self expression can help save a person’s life. These are the sort of stories & performances that stay with you forever.
