At the conference our Lecturers in Crime Scene Investigation and Forensic Science Sue Shemilt and George Handley presented on their work using ThingLink to create virtual substitutes of crime scenes to be used along in situ teaching as part of a blended learning style approach.

The weather is looking up at the weekend, so come join us on our beautiful campus for our last #OpenDay of 2025 this Saturday! We'll be giving talks on all our courses in #ForensicScience, #ForensicBiology, and #ForensicChemistry, as well as tours of our labs and scene houses.

This module is available to all #Forensic, #Chemistry, and #Physics students in their first year and those coming up from #Foundationyear, and focusses on looking at science from an interdisplinary lens, and understanding the importance of all community engagement.

Something a little different today as students on #KeeleUniversity's 'Science and Society' module, run by the #ForensicScience team, tackled different types of #scicomm working to create scientific posters for a chosen topic before translating it for a public audience.

This year Julie from 'JMS Accelerant Search' ran a demonstration of the burn simulation. She showed our students how a scene search is conducted with Frankie which is trained to detect traces of accelerants. We also got to meet the next generation of Tobacco detection dogs!

As promised earlier this week, here is Part 2 of our annual #FireInvesitgation and #ArsonInvesitgation burn we run on campus for our #ForensicScience students.....this time with dogs!

After the burn we also then work with detection dogs.....come back Thursday for more on that! (and yes there will be puppy pics!) #DogsWithJobs

Following on from this our postgraduates undertake a #forensic fire scene excavation, recovering and analysing exhibits, thus producing and evidential statement in prep to present their evidence as an expert in court. #ForensicScience #FireInvestigation #KeeleUniversity

On our Crime Scene to Court module our students will later apply these skills in both our Crime Scene House and Forensic Simulation Centre on campus in mock real life scenarios, and even in simulated scene assessments. #Forensics #Photography #ForensicPhotography #CSI

Recently we've been working on #CrimeScene photography with our third year #ForensicScience students. They are introduced to working with exposure, depth of field, shutter speed, and noise, before putting all this into practice in the lab.

Given by Hannah Vincent to a packed house, the talk explored how fundamental physical principles help investigators uncover hidden evidence and reconstruct crime scenes. From calculating bullet trajectories with mechanics to analysing blood spatter patterns using fluid dynamics.

To round off last week we were delighted to host the West Midlands Institute of Physics at Keele for their meeting and talk (amazingly titled!): "Charged with Evidence: The Physics Behind Forensic Science" #ForensicScience #Physics #BloodSpatter #KeeleUniversity

Led by Dr Chris Aris and Cora Cisan (#Histopathology PhD Student and Demonstrator in Forensic Science), the students developed their tissue ID skills, ahead of a diagnostic histology and soft tissue histology lab at the @KeeleMedSchool in a couple of weeks! #Forensics #Teaching

This week on our Advanced Topics in #ForensicBiology, both our masters and third year students were introduced to histology in #ForensicScience. Their lecture covered the types of histological methods, and in the lab they got to analyse a series of crime scene hard tissues.
