It's not everything, and there's more to do. But in government, delivery matters.

Again, I do not think the media and indeed the Labour Party understand the strength of feeling and support for Keir Starmer. Ignore the opposition, they would hate JFK if he was Labour leader. Starmer’s Labour Government is slowly turning it around. They deserve their full term

@JohnGlenUK John this is very inaccurate. Up until now (and on your watch) there was no ban on importing Russian crude oil processed in 3rd countries. We introduced a ban today. We’re doing it in a phased way with temporary licences which I hope to suspend soon. We’ve strengthened sanctions

🇬🇧The Conservative Party stood with Ukraine from day one. We led Europe in supplying military support, trained Ukrainian troops, and deployed British forces to Estonia to hold the front line against Russian aggression. Yet while our servicemen and women stand guard in Eastern Europe, Labour has given the green light for British money to flow into the Russian war machine. Salisbury is home to many proud Ukrainian families who fled the war, they will ask why this Labour Government would risk barrels becoming bombs. Labour refuses to use our own domestic energy resources, damaging British jobs, weakening our energy security, and keeping bills higher for families. As Kemi Badenoch asked the Prime Minister at PMQs - why is oil from Russia acceptable, but oil from Aberdeen is not? We are still waiting for Labour to fund their defence strategy, yet today they are pursuing policies that will finance the very aggression our armed forces are deployed to deter. Britain should be backing Ukraine, backing our allies, and backing our own energy security, instead they are undermining all three.

Trimontium! King Arthur lies buried under the Eildon Hills, awaiting the summons to rescue Britain; the monastery which Cuthbert joined as a novice lay between the curve of the Tweed in the foreground; & the view itself was Sir Walter Scott’s favourite - hence Scott’s View

I am proud and humbled to have been selected as Labour’s candidate for Makerfield. These proud working-class communities represent the very best values of our country and they deserve so much better. It would be my honour to work for them every day, if elected as their MP, to achieve that. Many people here feel Westminster isn’t working for them and they are right. I am standing to change that and get the voice of these communities heard loud and clear. I am glad that this by-election has finally put the places that make up the Makerfield constituency into the national spotlight. They have been neglected by national politics for too long. It is a good thing that all political parties are now on the hook to tell the voters here what they are going to do for them. More than anything, people need life to be more affordable again. As Mayor, I have brought in changes which are helping, such as the £2 fare cap, free bus travel for our 16-18 year-olds and removing the 9.30am restriction from older and disabled people’s bus passes. But there is only so much I can do from Greater Manchester. If elected, I will have a relentless focus on reducing people’s everyday costs and bills and well as securing the investment these communities need. I have been an elected representative in Greater Manchester for 25 years. Throughout that time, I have fought for the people of the North West of England on so many fronts. I am now ready to bring the whole weight of that experience to fighting for the communities of the Makerfield constituency and would be privileged to be given that opportunity.

@LBC @BenKentish What a complete moron. Why are these people so taken in by the ‘American model’? No one sane would choose to live in a society like that - it’s obscene to even suggest it.

“There is not in Europe any such thing as a pure race. Russians have an admixture of Tartar blood, Germans are largely Slavonic, France is a mixture of Celts, Germans, and people of Mediterranean race, Italy the same with the addition of the descendants of slaves from every corner of the Empire imported by the Romans. The English are perhaps the most mixed of all. There is no evidence that there is any advantage in belonging to a pure race. The purest races now in existence are the Pygmies, the Hottentots, and the Australian aborigines; the Tasmanians, thanks to the British, who were probably even purer are now extinct. There is a special absurdity in applying racial theories to the various populations of Europe.” — Bertrand Russell, Unpopular Essays, Ch. VII: An Outline of Intellectual Rubbish: A Hilarious Catalogue of Organized and Individual Stupidity

Surrey lost a cricket match. Actually, they got absolutely thumped. I’m naturally fairly philosophical about it. I just feel sorry for all those poor souls down in Hell who are now freezing their arses off!🥶 In all seriousness though, genuine congratulations to all my Yorkshire friends 👏 You gave my boys one helluva pasting. Something’s just not clicking for Surrey this season. But we support our teams through the good times and the bad. That’s Championship cricket after all. It’s not supposed to be easy. To enjoy the highs, you have to be there for the lows 🤎
