Career advice - never oppose your manager. if you can't lick your manager's boots, then don't become his enemy either. I've felt this heat personally. My manager wanted people who would constantly massage his ego. But I was too straightforward. Whenever he was wrong, I answered back directly. He used me because I had niche skills, but promotions, ratings, onsite opportunities… all went to his favourites. And honestly, today I really admire one of my colleagues. He never became a bootlicker, but he also knew how to maintain a healthy relationship with dignity. He didn't sell his self respect, and he didn't take unnecessary fights either. Eventually, he got what he deserved. Meanwhile, I lost many opportunities because I was too rigid with my values and emotions at work. In the corporate world, hard work alone is not enough. The smartest people are usually not the loudest rebels or the biggest bootlickers. They're the ones who know how to play the game without losing themselves.
