I wouldn’t be here in this moment without Harold Reynolds. After the 2017 season, I was contemplating retirement and it was he who pushed me to strive for the Hall of Fame knowing what it would take to make it. 3,000+ Ks, 250+ wins, everything. One conversation changed my whole trajectory and for that I’m forever grateful. Thank you Harold.

I ABSOLUTELY cannot thank @MLBNetwork enough for this hour. Showing my little boys what dad used to do (my girls lived it) It’s like my obit!! But I’m proud and thankful to @MLBONFOX for letting me do the games of a broadcaster’s dreams.

“Commish” was a favorite amongst players and staff. He did it right and was one of the most respected writers to ever do it. Our final conversation was this spring training, him coming over to the Marlins side, just to congratulate me. No other reason. Incredible. RIP Commish.
St. Louis Cardinals@Cardinals

The Cardinals and all of baseball were saddened to learn today of the passing of Hall of Fame writer and friend Rick Hummel at the age of 77. Hummel, nicknamed the “Commish”, covered the Cardinals for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for 50 years before retiring after the 2022 season. The Busch Stadium Press Box is named after both Rick and Hall of Fame writer Bob Broeg, who also covered the Cardinals for the Post-Dispatch.

This is heartbreaking. The Commish was the best. Great beat writer, the kindest of souls, a model for all of us. RIP.

Our P-D family mourns the loss of beloved baseball writing legend, Hall of Famer Rick Hummel. @dgoold wrote a beautiful tribute to Commish. He was a giant in his profession who never made others feel small. Sending love to his family and many, many fans. #tracking-source=home-top-story" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">stltoday.com/sports/basebal…

@B_Rowen @mike_petriello perfect storm for sure...lost track when Gameday didn't track the phantom B9, but I think it ended up around 285 pitches compared to average of just under 300 per nine-inning game this season...commercials were 40 seconds shorter than postseason and 10 shorter than regular season

@keithcostas @mike_petriello Yes, an impressive game! Pitchers must have gotten ahead in the count. Hitters swinging 1st pitch like the last day of a minor league season? Comparing it to MLB games w/ similar # of pitches would help begin to create context. Do we know how much time those commercials add?

Fall Stars Game with the pitch clock… 11 runs 20 pitchers 2 hours, 40 minutes …would’ve been 2 hours, 30 minutes on the dot if they hadn’t decided to play B9 with home team leading.

@B_Rowen @mike_petriello No question about that or way around it, but it still would’ve been almost half an hour shorter than the average nine-inning game this season even if you add in the difference between the postseason commercial breaks and what they were tonight.

@keithcostas @mike_petriello Let’s take it all into account instead of saying the pitch clock is the only savior of down time in the game. Don’t forget where the $ comes from. 2/2.
