I've never read the same book twice. Too many books, so little time. Yet felt the need to reread my 6th grade book club book. Excited to see how it hits 40 years later.

Prepared for the worst, arrived 3 hours before flight. 5 minutes through security. Thankful.

I hate attending class. But I love going to class because I get to walk through the most beautiful campus in America, and also there’s always people I see wearing “Indiana National Champions” apparel. Nowhere I’d rather be.

How do I know moving to handwritten work is benefitting my students? They are giving me grief about writing a second draft. Their computer use has almost eliminated the need for several rewrites to produce great work. They're not happy, but man, it is good to see them process

Last night at the LCPS School Board meeting, I asked direct questions about the proposed Select Committee on School Resource Officers. Here's why it matters. This board is being asked to create a committee to "oversee" MOU negotiations involving the @LoudounSheriff's Office and the @LeesburgPolice Department — two entities that don't report to this board at all. Nobody could explain the legal authority for that last night. There was also no charter presented. No defined membership. No timeline. No scope of authority. Nothing. Meanwhile, here's what the community is actually saying: ✅ 9 out of 10 LCPS principals told me directly — through my school visits and outreach — that they want SROs. ✅ The Lovettsville Town Council passed a unanimous 5-0 resolution just 12 days ago formally asking this board to move the MOU forward and place an SRO at Lovettsville Elementary. Not study it. Act. ✅ Democrat, Independent, and Republican parents in my district have personally asked me why this board won't support SROs for our elementary kids. ✅ A Select Committee controlled by members who have already publicly declared their opposition to SROs is not an impartial process. It is a predetermined outcome dressed up as one. The principals have spoken. The community has spoken. An elected town government has spoken unanimously. I'll keep pushing until the parents of Loudoun County get what they're asking for.

We are living in very scary and cynical times. So it really does make me happy seeing people line up at the theaters and finding so much joy from a film like Project Hail Mary. I’m always happy seeing so much positivity like this.

Can I get an AMEN?! 22 yo daughter with autism is taking Chem II for a second time. She so very badly wants to be a biologist, entomologist, but this Chem class is mathematical formulas, a weakness for her. Today, her tutor realized my daughter has been using the log function on her calculator incorrectly. She's not doing the math incorrectly! It's a tiny technical mistake that is, but isn't her fault. Can I tell you the boost in confidence once she realized the mistake? This past weekend, we even talked what she would do if she didn't pass again, try once more or change majors? I'm so happy this class is not the end of her biological dreams.

@Cptanimal @crosshairlvr Thx. Read the book when it came out, too long ago to remember this. I think as a teacher, I was reminded how affirmations can really affect someone, even when they don't believe it themselves.

"grace wasn't a coward" YES HE WAS, AND IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO HIS CHARACTER ARC. HE'S NOT A PERFECT HERO. HE DIDN'T WANT TO GO. HE WAS TOO SCARED. STOP ERASING THIS ASPECT OF HIM. HE LEARNS TO BE BRAVE BECAUSE HE FINDS SOMEONE TO BE BRAVE FOR.

@0Beanie05923291 It was my 6th grade book club book and is still on my top ten list of best books. I LOVED it, itimpacred me greatly, I book talk it in my classroom every year.

When I first posted that I was reading this book, people jumped in to tell me that it wasn’t a children’s book. I finished it this morning and am convinced that my 3 (grown) sons and daughter would’ve devoured it as teens. It has so many layers and lessons delivered through such beautiful text and language.

@TolentinoTeach I feel this. Throw in research skills, and every year, I tweak, adjust, revisit, and still can't figure out what works best for most.

I’ve taught students to write five-paragraph essays across countries, cultures, and grade levels. And if I’ve learned anything, it’s that there’s no universal method that works for everyone. Every time I walk into a classroom, I may need to rethink my entire approach based on the students before me. Teaching, at its core, is an art.

Teaching students to write a counterclaim and one of them referred to the rebuttal as the rebellion. I ❤️ teaching and will now refer to it as this.

@GiancarloSopo I took my 22yo daughter who loves science, studying to get her bio degree. We can't stop talking about it.

Project Hail Mary is pure joy. Gosling is great. Rocky will make you cry. An old-fashioned buddy adventure story about courage and friendship. My first thought as the credits rolled: I can’t wait to watch this with my daughter someday. Don’t miss it.
