Mornings used to suuuuuuck. Tired. Irritable. Overwhelmed. Anxious. Tears. Emotions running on high or low or both. Now: I’m sitting out in the yard reading and she pops her head out, says “Hey, Mom! I made us breakfast!” I am so proud of this girl. This time last year we were living with an almost 11 year old with treatment resistant bipolar. Late August of last year, we found metabolic and then ketogenic therapies. Within 6 weeks she was off all medications. This year, she’s making us breakfast and dancing around the kitchen while she does it - and telling me not to eat the few tomatoes on my plate until after I’ve had my protein and fat so that I don’t tank my ketones. This is why I call her my Keto Queen. She really has taken everything I’ve learned to help her and she has listened well. What’s better: she’s listening to her body and eating real whole foods and fasting to feel her absolute best.
