This is Roger Stone doing Roger Stone things: taking a complicated international prisoner/sanctions negotiation and reframing it as betrayal theater for clicks. Alex Saab is a Colombian businessman accused by the U.S. of laundering money for Maduro’s regime. He became a major political bargaining chip between the U.S. and Venezuela. In 2023, the Biden administration exchanged Saab in a prisoner swap tied to negotiations over elections, sanctions, and detained Americans. María Corina Machado — who is actually one of Maduro’s strongest opposition figures — supported negotiations aimed at getting freer elections in Venezuela. Stone is twisting that into: “she helped a money launderer.” That’s like saying diplomats “support terrorists” because they negotiate hostage releases. Also important: Roger Stone is not exactly a neutral narrator here. His entire business model is political provocation, conspiracy framing, and outrage amplification. And the “Boosted” label means somebody literally paid money to push this into people’s feeds. Nothing says “organic truth” like sponsored geopolitical rage content.
