Mathy folx--I have 7 weeks left of dissertation writing. What pep talk advice do you have for this almost-at-the-end time in the PhD process?

I wrote another 6 pages today! It's a practitioner-focused paper (ie lesson plan?) for an inquiry activity. Are any of my friends willing to read it for basic reasonableness soon? The full paper is not done, but the lesson is fully described. I just need to insert a few images.

@anshrdas I totally agree. What's interesting to me is what happens to the limit of you do lhopitals rule first...

@kellymath x/tanx -> 1 as x ->0 , so I will look at xsin(1/x) = sin(1/x)/(1/x). Numerator is bounded, denominator isn't, so this goes to 0.

Math peeps--How would you do this limit? Would you use L'Hopital's rule?

@kellymath @Desmos Absolutely, on both. I built it with the epsilon definition in mind, but any sequence visualization context could use pieces. I’m thinking of also adding the 1D representation of the sequences on the y-axis.

@bhanna @jbjay45 @zoom_us So with some investigating, we found that every single one of my students who were having this problem were on Mac laptops AND they had not updated their zoom software. As soon as they updated their zoom software, and re joined the zoom meeting/class, everything was fixed.

@kellymath @jbjay45 @zoom_us Also happening to us with the latest update. Very disruptive. Also - if we put someone in the waiting room, they cannot enable video after rejoining.

@zoom_us Having problems this morning with people getting stuck in the Main meeting and not being able to join Breakout Rooms. Also lost Hosting rights randomly mid meeting. Any ideas?

I'm struggling today and could REALLY use a work buddy for say the next two hours. Is anyone free and working and interested in just being on the other end of a Zoom call while we work?

(6/6) Just when we think it's time to give up because the progress is seemingly minimal, we have an explosion of understanding, insight and/or mastery. The main point is to keep showing up and practicing because we just don't know when that moment of mastery will appear.

(5/6) But, instead, that goal was reached in a much shorter time because the progress was not linear at all, but exponential in nature. Many things, including understanding mathematics, progress in this fashion.
