Hallelujah ⁦@msjlindsay⁩ for writing this passionate exploration of the harms women like us have experienced for simply believing women matter. It is also no coincidence that there are so many intellectually curious and gifted writers on one side of this so called debate.

I'm not arguing about the law, which was designed in the 1940s for a wholly different world. I am arguing about the facts. Economic migrants should not describe themselves as 'asylum seekers', nor should the proponents of mass immigration pretend that this is what they are. .@sophianictract .

@Arathusela @ClarkeMicah @godden_jeremy International law does not require asylum seekers to enter by regular means. As long as they claim asylum on arrival, they are asylum seekers. You don't have to like it, but this is the law as it stands.

@LosTremelos @blairmcdougall I think income tax should be raised. That's what bring in significant money. A progressive tax. Option open to both administrations. No burling involved.

@JohnMcS92873401 @blairmcdougall Look I’m in England Labour have taken my benefit away. They are taking income from millions of struggling pensioners. That’s a simple fact. I’m in favour on increasing taxes to pay for better benefits specifically a 1% wealth tax on assets over £10m. Only the uk govt can do that,

@LosTremelos @blairmcdougall Not in Scotland they haven't. Fully devolved. Not sure what your location has to do with anything. But if it means you won't be paying tax in the UK, it does kind of undermine any opinion you may express.

@LosTremelos @blairmcdougall Not for this year you haven't. It's nothing like the cap on banker's bonus, which sets a limit on what an employer could pay an employee by way of bonus. Nothing to do with public finances and benefits. Clearly you don't want to pay for better benefits. Fine, a valid Tory stance.

@LosTremelos @blairmcdougall Why don't you want to pay in Scotland, for better benefits in Scotland. I'm happy to. I'll also lose the winter fuel payment, if SNP follow Westminster. I agree the benefit should be means tested. Highlighting someone's hypocrisy is not patronising.

@JohnMcS92873401 @blairmcdougall Patronising suits you … the Scot govt doesn’t have all the money to compensate for Westminster cutting of benefits: the bedroom tax, the two child cap and now pensioners ….you know this but well your a Tory.

@LosTremelos @blairmcdougall You don't understand devolution do you. SNP's decision what they do, and how they fund it. They have tax raising powers. So, do you not want to pay in Scotland, for better benefits in Scotland?

@JohnMcS92873401 @blairmcdougall No the no sense is that it’s been taken away unless the uk govt has provided the Scot govt with funding to maintain it for all pensioners. Oh wait ….

@andrewburrough8 @ClarkeMicah One of the reasons they come is the English language. Google it and check. And the reason they are familiar with it is the British empire. Delicious irony.

@LosTremelos @ClarkeMicah Your point was that immigrants turn up in Britain as a result of the impact of the British Empire, it is not, it is because they have economic aspirations which they think are furthered by learning English.

@LosTremelos @ClarkeMicah What do they teach people these days, Afghanistan and Iran were never part of the British Empire and Syria was colonised by the French. They learn English because they want to come to Britain, they don't have English and so decide England is a good place.
