A note on grief: My favorite uncle has been elevated to ancestor. I haven’t known a world without him and I wasn’t exactly ready to live one. I never expected to live a life without his daughter but here I am. Grief around the holidays is brutal

There is something to be said about how a man treats the mother of his child after they’re no longer married. My daddy will move mountains for my mama. Even today. They’ve been divorced 20+ years.

We have the family gathering house, and while I love it… Auntie is tired. We closed for the next 3 holidays. No more hosting.
